At age twenty-six, Lori is becoming increasingly frustrated how her lack of experience is impacting her life.  So, the successful romance book writer decides to hire a male escort.

One night with Ander however is not enough and she soon becomes one of his regular clients. While both Lori and Ander keep up walls to maintain a professional relationship, it’s not long before the lines blur and Lori finds herself falling for him.

I was desperate to find an erotic romance book for the February 2021 Romance Book Reading Challenge and finally found this one on my to be read pile and am I SO glad that I did!

For one, this was so much more than the typical “girl falls for the escort” romance. Sure, it has that overall storyline but I found this book to be refreshingly different and such a great read.

Characters Who Pull You In

Right off the bat I was pulled into this story because I really liked Lori.

She’s not this submissive, flaky virgin who immediately gets googly eyes for her escort. Instead, she’s portrayed as this smart and emotionally intelligent woman who’s recognized how her virginity is impacting her relationships and she’s found a way to change that.

She’s also upfront and honest about what she wants and doesn’t want which I found empowering for her given the situation.

Ander was this mysterious, professional who immediately captivated me and I just wanted to peel back all of his layers to get to know this man. I can understand why Lori wanted to as well.

He wasn’t this alpha a-hole or overconfident, dominant man. He definitely had skills in his line of work but he came across as a “normal” guy in an interesting line of work unlike other escort characters I’ve read.

He turned out to be such a tortured hero who I couldn’t help but fall for.

As far as a book boyfriend goes, I definitely give him a high score as he was all about her pleasure and following her lead.

A Great Slow Burn Romance

Perhaps what I loved most was that this was not a case of instalove between Lori and Ander. I find that so unbelievable in escort romances.

Unlike other escort romance books, this one seemed to be more realistic, though I have no frame of reference or personal experience to base that statement. 😊

Throughout their entire first encounter, Ander was constantly checking in to ensure consent. It was still an extremely hot scene and yet seemed so real and honest.

This also seemed so much more authentic given the slow burn romance between these two.

Although they were holding stuff back from the other to keep things professional, there was an honesty to their engagements which I think helped build their intimacy.

Her probing curiosity and his acquiescence at times to give her tidbits about himself also built their overall intimacy.

I can see how some readers may get turned off by some repetition in scenes or the repetition in the beginning of moving from one hotel room scene to another but it all worked for me.

There isn’t too much back story or outside world interaction with these characters but just enough. Any more would have detracted from their growing relationship.

A Hot, Erotic Romance

This book definitely hit the mark for erotic romance, which is what I was looking for.

It’s through their “engagements” that you come to learn more about these characters and see their connection grow.

The hotel scenes were definitely hot but not overly sexualized if that’s not your thing.

I am so happy to have found this one and can’t recommend it enough!
