The Odds of You Summary:
Sage Collins knows a thing or two about odds. A year ago, she was a data analyst until she burned it all down to pursue her dream of becoming an author. One whirlwind bestseller and a struggling second book later, and Sage isnโt sure sheโll ever write a novel again.
But then an accidental encounter with an irritating passenger on the flight to Comic Con leaves Sage in an untested position. That passenger is Theo Sharpe: a breakout actor on the cusp of fame. And, unfortunately, the paparazzi have mistaken her for his girlfriend.
Armed with signature British charm and a smile that could tame oceans, Theo wears fame like a well-fit coatโฆthough Sage can see thereโs something deeper held in his eyes. But his fans are too involved in the drama, the pressure to deliver the next bestseller is on, and Sage and Theo both must agree thereโs nothing between them. They don’t have to acknowledge that saying it doesn’t make it true.
When Sage decides to flee to Scotland to clear her head and write her novel, she expects to find fresh air and the stillness to think. What she doesnโt expect is Theo Sharpe to come back into her lifeโฆand how he may be her greatest miscalculation of all.
The Odds of You: My Review
Itโs so exciting when you try a new author youโve never read before and they deliver! I was intrigued by the summary of The Odds of You because Iโm a sucker for a romance books about writers and those that take place in Scotland, but throw in an unassuming Hollywood actor as well and I was swooning already.
This romance turned out to be a really enjoyable read that not only had a wonderful love story that seemed impossible given the odds of the distance between them, but which also is a story that looks at the weight of parental expectations, the grief of loss, the scrutiny of the internet and the public eye, the pressure of deadlines and the courage to choose your own path.
Thatโs quite a lot to weave into 400+ pages, but I thoroughly enjoyed Sage and Theoโs honesty with one another, their growth as individuals, and the slow burn between them (despite it being only a few weeks).
I also love books that have strong female friendships, and the text threads between Sage and her girls (and how they started texting with Theo as well) was a fun aspect to this romance that gave some relief to the heavier topics.
While I think Kate could have dived deeper into both of these characters, especially Theoโs grief, it still worked. It would have been fun if she played up Sageโs love of data and โthe oddsโ of their meet-ups even more as well given the title but overall this was a wonderful read that I highly recommend.
Readers who love Tarah DeWitt, Cara Bastone, and Ava Wilder will enjoy this book.
