I first met Tristan Miles at a meeting where he was trying to take over my late husbandโs company.
He was powerful, arrogant, and infuriatingly gorgeous, and I hated him with every cell in my body.
In the shock of the century, he called me three days later and asked me on a date. Hard pass.
Six months later, he was the guest speaker at a conference I attended in France.
Still arrogant and infuriatingโbut this time, surprisingly charming and witty.
But I canโt go there. Heโs just a player in a hot suit, and Iโm just a widow with three unruly sons.
Yet everybody knows that Tristan Miles always gets what he wantsโฆand what he wants is me.
OMG โ this is my first book by Swan and Iโm kicking myself that I havenโt read her work sooner!
This book blew me away!
If this was written by a mediocre writer, it would have been a great story. Guy pursues woman who wants to hate him since he tried to buy her company but ultimately succumbs to his charms. Meets her kids once, they have an issue, solved, the end.
This COULD have been that simple but it was SO MUCH MORE, making this a phenomenal book, which has me in awe of Swan.
She dives deeper into their story and really made me fall for these two characters.
I loved Claire and appreciated how her grief for her husband and love for him still wasnโt shoved under the bus so to speak.
This made her more real to me and ironically made her love story with Tristan even more special.
She was this strong, single, working mother trying to find her footing in her new normal and not lose her husbandโs company.
But then thereโs Tristanโฆ.OMG this man!
Yes, he first comes across as this rich man whom EVERYBODY wants but heโs not arrogant, not a playboy.
I loved his pursuit of Claire at the conference but really itโs his continued pursuit of her when they return from France that gutted me with this book.
I canโt even describe how amazing he was with Claireโs kids! I loved every interaction he had with her three boys and the fact that he didnโt change his personality for them or Claire.
He was the real deal and was THERE for them in EXACTLY the way they needed him to be and I loved it so much.
Iโm normally not a fan of kids in romance books for various reasons but this book changed that for me.
The moment of crisis in this book gutted me because I could see and understand both sides of the argument. I had no idea how they were going to resolve things!!!
But alas they did and it was perfect.
I highly recommend it!!
