Aarons knocks out this out of the park! It’s one of her best books yet with great writing and a story that pulls you in right from the start. I can just tell this is going to be a great series.
There’s definitely a taboo office romance vibe to this story. Colleen has been groomed to take her place as the GM of her family owned MLB team – she just didn’t expect to take the reins when her father gets hauled to prison. And she definitely didn’t anticipate falling for the team’s star who would rather be anywhere but on a team with crooked ownership.
Of course Colleen can’t jeopardize another scandal if she were to get involved with one of her players, but you know what they say about good intentions…Yeah, she can’t help but fall for Hayes nor can he fight his attraction to her.
I loved how Colleen is a young woman thrust into a power role in a male dominated world and everyone’s expectations are for her to fail. Sounds so typical in this day and age, but I love how she just shakes it off and does what she does best.
A lot of time passes in the background so we don’t really see Colleen in action as the GM which would have been cool to see.
She’s in such a tough situation throughout the entire story and I would have liked to have seen her in her element once or twice to show off how great she is when others doubted her.
I did like seeing more of Hayes off the field so you could get to know him more as a person. I loved his backstory which made them more alike than they initially thought.
I also loved that you get both POVs in this story so you could understand their attraction and struggle with it given their work relationship.
Praise to Aarons for crafting a story that touches on important topics such as discrimination in the workplace, the American foster care system and domestic abuse.
I’m hoping that Colleen’s brother gets his story next!
Definitely pick up this book if you’re a fan of baseball romances or love it when a woman defies the odds against her and thrives.
