Reyes surprises the world when he takes his football talents to another team after winning two Super Bowls. Why the move? He’s returning to his hometown where SHE is. The one who broke his heart. But he never got over her and he wants her back…and a bit of revenge too.
I have to say that the book summary for Get Over You totally sucked me in. Heck yes, I want to read a book where a sexy, hot QB is gunning for the woman who broke his heart BECAUSE HE WANTS HER BACK.
I knew (or was hoping) that the hurt/want dynamic to his need was going to be explosive and I wasn’t disappointed.
The best part of this book was the chemistry between Emerson and Reyes. Even though they hadn’t seen each other for 8 years, their attraction was undeniable when they first set eyes on one another.
Reyes and Emerson grew up together and were thick as thieves before they became more their last years in high school. You don’t learn why Emerson up and dropped him out of the blue one day but she did and neither had forgotten the other in all the time since.
Reyes is so amazing you’re waiting for this amazing reason why Emerson would have left him so easily and are rooting for them from the get go. You can tell both want to protect their hearts (and in Reyes’ case enact a bit of revenge) but they really can’t help but give in to each other.
If anything, I wanted MORE of that. More of the tension, even more of the fighting and more of the push/pull between them. Even more of a bit of hurt for Emerson to really see Reyes pain. That is what sucked me into this book and made the beginning so good.
That being said, once you sort of get the HEA, the book continues on for quite a bit with more and more plotlines.
More can definitely be a good thing, but this book just kept adding more characters, more side stories and more details than were really necessary.
If anything, you start to lose the whole focus of the story which is this reconciliation between two soulmates.
That’s all this story really need to be – this great plot line of two childhood sweethearts finding their way back to one another and finding forgiveness. All that gets somewhat lost with lots of extra stories and extra people that just made the book needlessly longer.
That being said, I was thrilled to read a new writer that definitely has some writing chops. I’ll be reading more from her in the future for sure!
