Shield of Sparrows: My Review

Devney Perry is diving into romantasy and slayed it! I couldn’t put it down and now need more ASAP!

I love it when romance authors spread their wings and Devney Perry is doing just that with her first romantasy and she is bringing it! Shield of Sparrows has everything that I love about fantasy romance:

• A strong heroine who doesn’t yet realize her strength or purpose,
• An alpha hero who shows his leadership abilities yet also his softer side,
• An enemies to lovers romance with sizzling chemistry,
• A mystical world unlike our own with monsters and danger lurking in every corner,
• An engaging storyline that hooks you from the start and keeps you wanting more!

Right from the start, I was gripped by Odessa and her plight in life. She was relegated to the shadows in her own royal court, and yet is drawn out by the prince who marries her and unknowingly gives her her freedom. I really enjoyed her curiosity and growth throughout this book and cannot wait to see even more of her strength.

The MMC was so HOT (withholding name for a reason!). It wasn’t hard to see where his storyline was going but I loved the slow burn heat that emerged between them until the truth prevailed (and I was right!). He was not only a strong, alpha hero to lust over, but also a protector and someone who supported Odessa even if she didn’t realize it.

Perry was spectacular in her world building and the creation of the monsters of this world that resemble bears, wolves, crows, eels and others only more intense with spikes and claws and size to be feared.

As the first book in the series, it did a great job of setting the stage with amazing characters to fall for, a world that I want to know more about, and a storyline that I cannot wait to continue. It also read as a complete book which is fantastic for those just checking it out but trust me when I say you’ll be anxious to get your hands on book two as soon as you finish.

This is the perfect romantasy for readers who love Fourth Wing and A Court of Thorns and Roses and who are looking for a new book boyfriend to obsess over. I highly recommend it.
