I find that I can be an impatient reader when it comes to fantasy series if the first book only sets the foundation, but I FINALLY found a fantasy romance book that is all about the romance as well as a fascinating story all in book one! YAY!
This book had it all for me.
Fantastic writing, a compelling and intriguing story, amazing characters and side characters to adore and a romance that was off the charts.
Cat is an example of a strong female character that I love. She’s strong, smart and can be vulnerable even though it goes against everything that she’s been taught.
She has some fantastic, magical powers and yet she also deals with some significant pain because of them.
I can completely understand her hesitation in trusting Griffin but her antagonism and constant need to fight her feelings was getting a bit L-O-N-G until she finally wised up and owned them.
Griffin is what book boyfriends are made of if we can skip over the whole abduction part. 😊
This guy is a ruler – a true alpha – and yet he showed such restraint and compassion for Cat. The intensity of his feelings and passion for her were so evident especially when she was in trouble.
His claiming of her was more than just physical and I loved it.
“You don’t get it.”… “You’re mine. Not Cat the Soothsayer. Not Cat the Kingmaker. Just Cat.”
Some of the best moments in the book were when it was just Cat, Griffin and his Beta Team.
The three boys of Beta Team became the best friends to Cat and I loved that these brutal, strong warriors were so kind to her as well as fun and teasing when they wanted to be.
Of course, the story to this book is just as intriguing as the characters.
I love how the villain in this book is a woman – Cat’s mother – and I can’t wait to see how that dynamic plays out in the next two books.
Cat’s magic and her connection with the Greek gods made this a unique fantasy book that’s not just based on fairies.
It’s also unique with some intense fighting scenes with interesting creatures that keep you on the edge of your seat but that never drown out the romance focus.
I highly recommend!
