Brooklyn and the Brooklyn Bruisers are two of my favorite hockey romance book series and Sure Shot is the perfect second chance romance addition that I couldn’t put down!
Mark “Tank” Tankiewicz hasn’t been having a great, few months. His team lost in the playoffs, he got traded to a new team and his wife just served him divorce papers. The one upside? Now in Brooklyn trying to mingle with his new team, he comes face to face with a former flame – Bess Berringer.
Bess has worked her tail off for the past 9 years to get her sports agency off the ground, but now it’s time to focus more on her personal life. She has a bit of baby fever going on so now that she’s turned 30, she’s ready to put her personal 5-year plan into action. Only she didn’t anticipate running into Tank again – the man she hasn’t forgotten.
Sometimes I find second chance romances a tad depressing if there is a lot of baggage and hurt for the hero and heroine to work through. That angst can sometimes overshadow the love and joy I feel when a couple can’t deny their attraction. Yet, Sure Shot was the best kind of second chance romance.
Bess and Tank had a hot fling many moons ago when both were just starting out in their respective careers so the ending didn’t’ cause undo drama. Flash forward 9 years and just from locking eyes, the heat and chemistry came back between these two!
I loved how Sarina Bowen didn’t drag their reunion out. It’d been years but neither denied their lust and it was on for these two. That’s not to say however that their current circumstances weren’t going to impact their potential reunion! Could they have more than just a fling this time.
Strong women always appeal to me in romance books so I loved how Bess never lost sight of what she truly wanted and deserved. She (shocker!) actually communicates with Tank and expresses what she wants in her heart even though it may risk everything.
Tank was a man who took what he wanted and there was no denying he wanted Bess. I loved how he was no nonsense and yet had a slight alpha streak to him that completely turned Bess on. He just seemed like a really great guy that I’d totally want to hang around with too. Yet we also come to find out that emotions run deep with Tank and for good reason.
I thought Sarina Bowen did a great job exploring an important topic that effects many couples in this book, but she did so from the male POV which is often not seen or discussed. Sorry- not giving any spoilers but she approached the topic in a really great way that didn’t drag the story down but elevated it.
Every time Sarina Bowen comes out with a new Brooklyn Bruisers book it’s a must read for me because I love every character that she brings to this team. If you love hockey romances or are just a fan of second chance love stories, then look no further and read this book!
