The Things Gods Break Summary:
Youโd think Iโd have learned by now: Donโt mouth off to deities. Donโt fall for the King of the Underworld. And definitely donโt get dragged into a divine death match where Iโm the cursed mortal prize.
But here I amโtrapped in Tartarus, humanityโs worst pit stop, squaring off against monsters who make the gods look merciful. Titans, twisted by centuries of rage and ruin, are sealed behind seven ancient locks.
And guess what? I’m the key. To escape, Iโll have to survive every horrifying trial they throw at me. To win, I might have to become something the gods never saw coming. Oh, and Hades? He’s about to break every rule the gods ever wrote.
Because to save me…the god of death will burn the world. But if I break free? So do the Titans. And the world wonโt just sufferโit’ll beg for the end.
The Things Gods Break: My Review
To say that I loved The Games Gods Play is an understatement so I was extremely excited to pick up where things left off with The Things Gods Break to get more of Lyra and Hadesโ love story.
And by pick things up where we left off, I mean that literally because thatโs exactly where things started, with Lyra and Boone locked in Tartarus, and away the story went. And overall, this book actually read similar to The Things Gods Break in respect to the Locks that Lyra had to complete which were very similar to the Labors she had to compete in in book one. The ones that were explained were creative and kept the suspense going.
I also enjoyed how we get more of Lyra being a badass. Itโs the human (turned goddess in this one) whom everyone underestimates who always ends up saving the world in a romantasy and this one is no different in that way. I also really enjoyed how Boone played a key role in this story as well.
This book was full of adventure, intrigue, suspense and some interesting surprises with Abigailโs amazing writing. The amount of knowledge that she must have about Greek mythology and the Titans is unreal. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Cronos, Rhea, Persephone and all the Titans!
The back and forth storyline (no spoilers) wasnโt something I expected and while I enjoyed it for the most part, my brain hurt while reading this book. ๐ It took me several days because I had to go so slow to follow the storyline and keep everything straight! While I liked the plot twist, this book did feel a bit long at 500 pages and I feel like a lot could have been cut to keep the story alive.
I also wish we had more of Hades and Lyra. While we do get them in this story, itโs just very different from what I expected after really falling for their slow burn romance in book one. And the plot twist made me rethink their entire love story from The Games Gods Play.
Of course, this one was left on a cliffhanger as well but one that didnโt rip my heart out so Iโm good with that and can wait until book three arrives for more of this series.
*I received an advanced reader copy. All opinions are my own.
