Travel writer and photographer Aadya heads to a remote polar bear lodge in Manitoba for her first work trip after calling off her wedding to a man who wanted a more traditional wife. She’s determined to keep pursuing the career and life she loves, despite an ex who won’t accept that they’re over and a mother who wishes she’d simply settle down.
Then she meets Reid, the grumpy lodge owner who’s firmly rooted to this remote corner of Canada. Twelve days together, wilderness excursions, and eventually getting snowed in give these two plenty of opportunity to warm up to each other.
My Review of Too Cold for Comfort
This was my first book by Nisha J. Tuli, and what I loved most about Too Cold for Comfort was the chance to escape into northern Canada within the pages of this wintery romance.
Honestly, this was a three-star romance with a five-star setting for me. I never knew Manitoba was considered the polar bear capital of the world, and I loved the remote lodge, wilderness excursions, and details about the area. I’d seriously consider traveling there to see the beluga whales and polar bears myself if I wasn’t terrified of them!
I also really liked Aadya. She walked away from a man who didn’t respect her career and refused to give up the travel and photography she loves simply to fit someone else’s idea of what her life should look like.
That also made her relationship with Reid interesting. He’s tied to his lodge while her career is built around travel, so even as they fall for each other, there’s a legitimate question of how a relationship between them could possibly work without Aadya sacrificing the life she just fought to keep.
I enjoyed grumpy Reid and especially his unexpected dirty-talker side, but I wanted more character development from him, and the side characters didn’t add much for me either. The pacing and overall depth could have been stronger, particularly when it came to developing the romance.
Aadya and Reid’s feelings develop quickly over just twelve days, so there is definitely a bit of instalove here. But I still found their relationship believable because the book gave them enough communication beyond that initial attraction to convince me that they were actually considering what a future together would look like, especially when their lives seemed to be heading in completely different directions.
Overall, the romance was enjoyable, but the Manitoba setting is what I’ll remember most about this one.

I wanted stronger pacing and more depth from the characters and romance, but if you’re looking for a winter romance with a unique setting, forced proximity, and a heroine committed to living life on her own terms, this is worth checking out.
