It’s that time of year again for the Goodreads Choice Awards!
As a book list lover myself, I love it when others make bookish lists as well, and Goodreads makes the ultimate list each year of the best romance books for their annual Choice Awards.
This year’s nominees for best romance book are spectacular reads and rightly so since many Goodreads readers loved them.
The Goodreads Choice Awards are considered the only major book awards decided by readers so what an honor for these authors to have their works chosen.
Goodreads picks 15 nominees for the opening round to which the top 5 written in nominees are added for a total of 20 nominees for the semi-final round.
Selections must have an average rating of 3.5 or higher at the time of the awards launch and are chosen after analyzing “statistics from the millions of books added, rated and reviewed on Goodreads.”
2019 Goodreads Choice Awards Winner:
Best Romance Book
Not only did Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston win Best Romance Book but it also won Best Debut Novel for the 2019 Goodreads Choice Awards.
I voted for this book in each and every round because it is so deserving of both of these awards. It is hands down my all-time favorite romance book for 2019.
Given this is McQuiston’s debut novel, the book wasn’t on my radar screen until I saw how popular it was on Goodreads. After reading the book blurb, I found it to be such an original, creative love story that I had to read it and let’s just say that I’m SO glad that I did!
I particularly love how this book defies a particular niche and instead appeals to a wide range of readers.
Yes, it has romance – MM romance in fact – but it also has political satire exploring “what happens when America’s First Son falls in love with the Prince of Wales.”
The main characters (and secondary characters!) are so well written as is their dialogue. I especially loved the historical love letters that they shared between one another.
I cannot recommend this book enough and for reasons why, you can check out my book review then check out more books like Red, White and Royal Blue.
Recommended Romance Book Nominees

Although I have not read all of these nominees, I also highly recommend Beard Necessities, which was a 5 star read for me (read my review) and a wonderful conclusion to the Winston Brothers series by Penny Reid.

The Kiss Thief was my first L.J. Shen book and was an excellent enemies to lovers, slow burn romance that had a really wonderful heroine. I highly recommend both books if you have yet to read them.
Several of these books have been on my “Want to Read” list, but a few I had never heard of until this list of nominees came out, such as The Flatshare and Ayesha at Last.
I can’t wait to crack their pages in 2020!
