What This Book Is About
Bull rider Emmett Branch agrees to become the eligible bachelor on the reality dating show Romance Ranch, not because he’s looking for love, but because the paycheck could help save his family’s struggling ranch.
Julia Silva has no interest in becoming part of the show’s manufactured romance, but working behind the scenes as a location assistant puts her in constant contact with Emmett, the charming cowboy who’s one of her brother’s biggest rodeo rivals. As the cameras roll and producers manipulate every moment for ratings, the chemistry neither of them expected becomes impossible to ignore.
My Review of Fever Dream
There’s just something about an Elsie Silver romance that makes it incredibly easy to disappear into her world, and Fever Dream was no exception. Between the unforgettable characters, sharp humor, family dynamics, and a romance I couldn’t stop rooting for, this was another winner from one of my favorite contemporary romance authors.
I’ll admit I’m a complete sucker for reality TV romances despite being an absolute hater of reality TV in real life, and Romance Ranch was the perfect backdrop for this story. Elsie captures all the over-the-top drama, producer manipulation, and behind-the-scenes chaos you’d expect while never letting the reality show overshadow the romance itself.
What really made this book work for me, though, was Emmett and Julia. Their attraction is immediate, but because they’re never supposed to cross the line, every stolen moment carries even more tension. Forced to spend so much time together behind the scenes, they gradually move beyond first impressions and discover the people they really are beneath the public personas and family expectations.
Emmett completely stole the show for me. He may have the reputation of being a playboy, but he’s an absolute goner almost from the beginning. Watching him fall first while trying to convince himself he could keep things casual made so many of his scenes impossible not to smile through. Julia is equally easy to root for as she balances the impossible demands of producing the show while refusing to compromise who she is.
The supporting cast is another reminder of why Elsie Silver creates some of my favorite romance worlds. Oma and Opa were scene stealers every time they appeared, and I loved seeing Thea and Winter Silva again after Reckless. The sibling relationships throughout the story also do a fantastic job setting up what’s sure to be another addictive family series.
I started this one on audio, and both narrators were excellent. They brought the humor, chemistry, and emotional moments to life so well that I felt like I was right there on set watching the chaos unfold. In fact, I ended up switching to the ebook simply because I couldn’t wait to find out how everything turned out.
If readers are expecting a true rodeo romance, you may be surprised by how little bull riding actually appears on the page. The reality show and forbidden romance take center stage, and honestly, I never minded because the relationship was compelling enough to carry the story on its own.
Fever Dream earned its spot on my list of the best summer romance books of 2026 and delivered exactly the entertaining, swoony escape I was hoping for. Elsie Silver continues to prove why she’s one of the biggest names in contemporary romance, and I already can’t wait for the next book in this series.
What I Loved
- A reality dating show setting that was equal parts hilarious and over-the-top.
- Emmett, the playboy hero who’s secretly the first to fall.
- Fantastic forbidden romance chemistry.
- Oma and Opa completely stealing every scene they were in.
- Cameos from Thea and Winter Silva from Reckless.
- Strong sibling relationships that have me excited for the rest of the series.
- An excellent audiobook narration.
Things to Know Before You Read
- Kicks off a brand-new series.
- Can easily be read as a standalone, though Reckless readers will appreciate a few familiar faces.
- Features a bull rider, but the story focuses much more on the reality TV show than rodeo competition.
- Opens with an emotionally intense scene that some readers may find difficult, though it’s handled thoughtfully.
- Great choice if you enjoy both reality TV romances and making fun of reality TV at the same time.
Final Thoughts
Fever Dream is exactly the kind of romance I’ve come to expect from Elsie Silver: addictive, funny, emotionally satisfying, and filled with characters you immediately want to spend more time with. Between the reality TV setting, forbidden romance, memorable family dynamics, and a hero who completely won me over, this was an easy 4.5-star read.
If you’re looking for one of the most entertaining cowboy romances of the summer, this absolutely belongs on your TBR. I’ll be first in line for the next book in the series.
