What This Book Is About
Jackson Wells wakes up in the hospital after a devastating accident with no memory of who he is. He doesn’t remember his ranch, his brothers, his children, or the wife he’s loved for years.
For Kate, the hardest part isn’t losing her husband physically. It’s watching the man standing in front of her have no memory of the life they’ve built together. As Jackson begins the long road to recovering from a traumatic brain injury, the two must figure out whether love can survive when only one of them remembers everything they once shared.
My Review of Love Wells Kept
There’s just something about a romance centered on a married couple that always works for me. But watching two people who are already deeply in love have to find their way back to each other after amnesia made this story especially emotional.
I honestly couldn’t imagine living through this situation from either perspective. Jackson wakes up with no memory of being a husband or father, while Kate is suddenly faced with loving someone who no longer remembers loving her back. Bailey Hannah captures both sides of that heartbreak beautifully, making it easy to empathize with each of them throughout the story.
One of the book’s biggest strengths is that Bailey establishes Jackson and Kate’s relationship so well before the accident. Their chemistry, devotion, and deep affection for one another are evident from the very beginning, which makes the tragedy hit that much harder. I also appreciated how realistically Jackson’s traumatic brain injury and recovery were portrayed. Rather than offering a neat, happily-ever-after where all his memories magically return, the recovery feels ongoing and imperfect, which made the emotional journey more believable.
Kate was also such a strong heroine. She never felt unrealistically resilient, but instead like someone simply doing her best in an impossible situation. I also loved seeing the support system surrounding both her and Jackson. Living on the Wells Ranch means they’re surrounded by family willing to step in whenever needed, reminding you just how much community can matter during life’s hardest moments.
Where the story lost me a bit was once Jackson returned home. Because this is ultimately a romance, much of the second half focuses on Jackson and Kate rediscovering their physical relationship. While I understood why that was important to their healing, the progression felt a little abrupt. Jackson goes from wanting to simply get to know his wife again to suddenly embracing a very confident sexual relationship, complete with dirty talk, and I never quite bought that emotional leap. I wanted more time watching their emotional intimacy rebuild before their physical relationship progressed, which would have made the payoff feel even stronger. Even so, I found myself rooting for them the entire time. Their love never felt in question, only whether they could find their way back to each other.
I received an advance reader copy. All opinions are my own.
What I Loved
- A realistic portrayal of traumatic brain injury and the long recovery process.
- A deeply loving married couple forced to rediscover their relationship.
- Bailey Hannah establishes Jackson and Kate’s chemistry before the accident, making the emotional stakes incredibly high.
- The strong family support system throughout the Wells Ranch series continues to shine.
- The recovery isn’t wrapped up with an unrealistic, perfectly tidy ending.
Things to Know Before You Read
- Depictions of traumatic brain injury and rehabilitation.
- Miscarriage is depicted on the page.
- The story focuses much more on Jackson rebuilding his relationship with Kate than reconnecting with his children or returning to work.
- The physical relationship resumes relatively quickly once Jackson is home, which may feel rushed for some readers.
- Although this is the final book in the Wells Ranch series and includes recurring characters, it can still be read as a standalone.
Final Thoughts
Love Wells Kept offers a thoughtful and emotional look at what happens when memory disappears but love remains. While I would have liked a slower emotional progression before Jackson and Kate rekindled their physical relationship, I still appreciated Bailey Hannah’s realistic approach to recovery and the unwavering devotion between this married couple.
If you’ve been following the Wells Ranch series, this is a satisfying and emotional farewell to the family. And if you enjoy married couple romances that explore healing, resilience, and rediscovering love after unimaginable hardship, this one is worth picking up.
