Play Along Summary:
Kennedy Kay is the only woman on staff for the Windy City Warriors, and sheโs desperate to land her dream job with a new team next year. But a Las Vegas run-in with the teamโs shortstop, Isaiah Rhodes, threatens it all, since they wake up married the next morning with no recollection of how that happened.
Now theyโre left to pretend they are a real couple to save Kennedyโs job but Isaiah isnโt settling with just pretending. Heโs ready to prove he is husband material and just needs to convince his new wife to play along for the long haul.
Play Along: My Review
Liz Tomforde is seriously the new queen of sports romance. She has crushed it with the Windy City series but I may have found my new favorite!
OMG this book! It landed on my list of most anticipated new romance books of 2024 before it even had a book summary and before it even had a book cover because I KNEW that it was going to be one of the best of the year and boy did it deliver.
I donโt think I can adequately convey how much I loved Isaiah Rhodes and Kennedy Kay in this sports romance and how fast I devoured their love story while hoping it would never end.
I love Liz Tomfordeโs books because they have so many amazing layers to them. Any other author could probably write a baseball romance where a player falls for the athletic trainer on staff but Liz made this SO MUCH MORE that Iโm afraid my review just wonโt do it justice.
But most of all I loved Isaiah. He is the book boyfriend I already fell for in Caught Up (his brotherโs story) but man did he exceed all my expectations with his own love story.
This is a man who is the life of the party and who strives to lighten things up for everyone around him even when heโs got his own struggles. I loved the devotion between him and his brother Kai. I loved the relationship he has with his coach and teammates but I loved the man he was for Kenny. His patience, his kindness, his love and his โteachingโ were everything that makes him top book boyfriend material.
I loved that Kenny wasnโt two-dimensional either. She could have just been the woman resisting falling for the athlete in her clubhouse but I adored the backstory that Tomforde gave her and how she truly blossomed to the woman she was and wanted to be with Isaiahโs help.
As much as I loved their character development, so much of what makes Lizโ stories so incredible is her writing. I was instantly pulled into their story with the prologue which was a great set up to their connection, trust and history that developed over four years until the present day.
Every interaction and moment Liz wrote in this story just carried their romance along at the perfect pace while also really helping the reader really come to know them as people so that you were rooting for them to the very end.
This is the perfect romance for readers who love the he falls first trope or love a book without any crazy third act breakup but a moment of conflict that just makes you love both characters even more.
Iโm so happy that we still have Rioโs story to finish off the series but Iโll be devastated when itโs over. Liz has become a must-read author for me and I do not seeing that changing any time soon.
Play Along is one of the best romance books of 2024 and I highly recommend it whether youโre new to the series or a longtime fan!
