My Favorite Teacher Student Romance Book Recommendations
Autoboyography
by Christina Lauren
A TA-Student Romance Book Set in High School
When Tanner Scott’s family moved from California to Utah three years ago, he was forced to push his identity back into the closet. Now he only has one semester left of high school before he can move out of state.
But when his best friend encourages him to take the coveted Seminar at Provost High, he meets TA Sebastian Brother. Now Tanner has to not only write a book in four months, he also has to try and not fall in love with his mentor.
I adored this book so, so much and cannot recommend it enough. Since the teacher is more a TA in this romance, it made this high school romance all the more believable in my eyes.
There is still this element of “we can’t go there,” but it stems from more than just their respective roles in school. This is a wonderful, slow burn, teacher student romance and one of Lauren’s finest.
Kissing Tolstoy
by Penny Reid
A Teacher Student Romance Set in College
Emma went on a blind date, not realizing it was with the wrong person. Only months later she runs into him again on campus – he’s her Literature professor.
Penny Reid pens smart romance books so I knew that her teacher student romance books were going to nail this trope.
Also one of my favorite college romance books, I particularly liked how the ethics of Luca and Anna’s relationship was discussed and addressed instead of just brushed aside in this novel.
After reading this one you can also check out the second book in the Dear Professor series, Kissing Galileo.
The Love Interest
by Kayley Loring
A Teacher Student Romance Book Set in Graduate School
One night is all it took for Fiona and Emmett to forge a connection neither was expecting or looking for. But what happens next when you realize he’s your new professor and she’s your new student?
Emmett is a handsome, bestselling author of thrillers and she’s a budding romance author. Can these two opposites make it through the semester?
I really like Kayley Loring’s writing and enjoyed this fun take on a teacher student romance. How the characters used their own lives as inspiration for their novels was a unique twist as you get chapters of their work interspersed between chapters of their own romance.
Thief of Hearts
by L.H. Cosway
A Teacher Student Romance Set in Community College
Andrea Anderson has no clue of the thoughts churning around in the dark and dangerous ex-con’s head as he enters her classroom.
A widow at just twenty-eight, love is something Andie hasn’t considered a part of her life for a very long time. However, when lingering touches turn to whispered words, she may take a leap of faith.
But Stu Cross is in her class for a reason, and it has nothing to do with love. He’s there to burrow his way into her life and repay a debt, otherwise his family will suffer.
Andie is the first person to show him true kindness since he got out of the big house, and though he doesn’t want to mislead her, he doesn’t have another choice.
I loved this book because it’s such a different take on the teacher student romance.
Stu is a thirty-something who had taken the fall for his family’s illegal business and now is enrolled in an adult class at a community college.
His reason? To get in with the teacher so he can meet her roommate, get a fake painting and hopefully save his family. Gah!
I loved the suspense to this book but it was Stu’s vulnerability, his flirting and his desperation to do anything for his family that really got to me.
Loving Mr. Daniels
by Brittainy C. Cherry
A Teacher Student Romance Book Set in High School
Ashlyn is grieving the loss of her sister but when she stumbles into a bar, the music sung by the gorgeous guitar player soothes her heartache.
How is it that one night and one person could be the balm she needs for the loss she feels?
But when she starts her senior year at a new high school, she comes face to face with her musician, her new English teacher.
I love Cherry’s writing which always tug on my heart strings and couldn’t pass up this teacher student romance. While set in high school, there isn’t much of an age gap between Ashlyn and Daniel.
Both characters are dealing with loss and heartache which makes this book so much more than just their teacher-student relationship.
Plus, if you’re a fan of Shakespeare or musicians, you’ll love this book.
A Different Blue
by Amy Harmon
A Teacher Student Romance Book Set in High School
Blue Echohawk doesn’t know who she is. She doesn’t know her real name since she was abandoned at two and raised by a drifter.
At nineteen she is just a senior in high school and the complete opposite of the young British teacher who decides he is up for the challenge, and takes the troublemaker under his wing.
This is the story of a nobody who becomes somebody. It is the story of an unlikely friendship and of falling in love.
I love Amy Harmon books because her writing is magnificent and her stories are so thought provoking.
I liked this one as Blue’s story is a fascinating read and I loved her journey.
This is your pick if you’re more interested in a slow burn teacher student romance without necessarily a lot of show at the end.
Her Dirty Professor
by Penny Wylder
A Teacher Student Romance Novella Set in College
I watched a video I’m pretty sure no one in my class was meant to see. But then my classmates dared me to confirm if our professor, Loche Johnson did indeed have THE biggest… well, “Johnson”.
I was just supposed to take a look. It was not supposed to become more. If we are found out, he could risk his job and I could risk my scholarship.
If you just want a taste of a teacher student romance, then this novella is for you. Featuring a star student on scholarship and her professor with a dirty past, this is one hot, short read.
Wylder always delivers the heat and this one definitely brings it.
MM Teacher Student Romance Books
Dear Mr. Brody
by A.M. Johnson
A MM Teacher Student Romance Book Set in College
Donovan Brody, recently divorced, single dad sees his single status as an opportunity to explore the attraction he’s always felt toward men, but never pursued having married his high school sweetheart.
Unsure how to proceed or even enter the dating world, he takes up his friend’s suggestion to try a dating app.
He just never thought he’d make a connection so quick. Nor did he anticipate the man he’s falling for to be his student.
There was just something about this book that really hooked me. Maybe it was the fact that Donovan “Van” is so open to exploring this new side to himself and how wonderful Parker was with him.
The age gap (32 and 24) wasn’t a big deal to me and both men were so open in their communication.
I also loved the slow burn aspect to this teacher student romance where you could sense their immediate attraction in the classroom but also how they really came to connect anonymously through the dating app.
I definitely recommend it!
Devilry
by Marley Valentine
A Teacher Student Romance Set in College
Earning a full scholarship to King University was my hard-earned ticket out of the small town and away from the small-minded people who live there.
Diving head first into new experiences, new friends, and parties, I didn’t expect to run straight into the one thing I wasn’t ready for.
Cole Huxley is everything I could fall in love with, except for one problem… I never wanted to fall for my professor.
Elijah, the 18-year-old freshman actually made this book for me.
He just came across as way more mature beyond his years, probably due to the fact that he was ostracized by his family and lonely for the last few years of high school until he could get away.
He pretty much brought Cole, the 31-year-old professor and guy who never did relationships to his knees.
I also liked the friendship Cole has with two other professors who each have their own teacher student love stories in the Kings University series. You should check them out as well.

Male Teacher Student Romance Books
Black Rainbow
by J.J. McAvoy
A Teacher Student Romance Book Set in Law School
After a one-week fling with a musician she meets in a bar, Thea Cunning never expects to see Levi Black again.
Then Monday morning comes around, and she discovers that the man she was with is not only her professor, but he’s also one of the top criminal lawyers in the state of Massachusetts.
The smartest option is to drop the course but to accomplish her goal and get her father out of prison, Thea knows she needs to learn under the best of the best—and that’s Levi Black.
If you want a bit of suspense with the heat of a forbidden, teacher student romance book then McAvoy has you covered.
Plus, if age gap isn’t your thing, it’s not as pronounced since this story takes place in law school.
I also love books where the spark from an initial hook-up only burns brighter the more the characters spend time together. I can’t wait to check this one out.
Dark Notes
by Pam Goodwin
A Teacher Student Romance Book Set in a Music High School
I have a musical gift, only a year left of high school, and a plan. With one obstacle. Emeric Marceaux doesn’t just take.
He seizes my will power and bangs it like a dark note. When he commands me to play, I want to give him everything.
I kneel for his punishments, tremble for his touch, and risk it all for our stolen moments. He’s my obsession, my master, my music. And my teacher.
I have a feeling this book is going to be H-O-T! I love a strong heroine and I sense that Ivory is all that and more.
She has a reputation but also amazing talent and now a new teacher to instruct her in more ways than one. It’s another teacher student romance book with a unique twist!
Illicit
by Ava Harrison
A Teacher Student Romance Set in Prep School
Eighteen-year-old, Lynn just dumped her cheating boyfriend and had one night of passion with a complete stranger.
She was never supposed to see him again, but there he was the first day of her senior year. Her history teacher.
This is a teacher student romance book with a mild age gap (18 and mid-twenties) but with a lot of drama.
If you like a bit of angst with your drama filled romance, this is the pick for you.
Voyeur
by Fiona Cole
A Teacher Student Romance Book Set in College
I didn’t know she was my student the first time I paid to watch her at the club.
Once she walked into my classroom, another smiling college freshman, I knew I should stop going, stop watching, but I couldn’t do it. The worst part is that she has no idea her professor is the one watching behind the glass.
If you’re a fan of those who like to watch then this is the teacher student romance book for you!
Both characters in this one are a bit complex. Oaklyn needs to earn money for school and Professor Pierce has his own inner struggles.
It starts at a club but then things escalate from there. Definitely a unique twist to another teacher student romance book worth checking out.

Yes, I’m up for traveling to Spain and meeting a hot Spaniard tutor in this teacher student romance! Of course, the distance will be a constant threat to their whirlwind romance but I am up for it.

by Skye Warren
A Teacher Student Romance Book Set in College

He just never expected to see the woman who cleans his home, who he can’t stop thinking about, sitting in his classroom.
If you love teacher student romances AND retellings then this is the one for you. A Beauty and the Beast story that only Warren can tell, this is the first book in her A Modern Fairy Tale duet.
Lessons in Sin
by Pam Godwin

Godwin brings it again with this forbidden, teacher student romance with an added hot twist. Temptation, pain, and one dirty priest. Plus, an age gap. What isn’t in this romance?! Definitely check it out.

Lovers of Dante will devour this teacher student romance book which starts Gabriel’s journey out of his own personal hell.

Slammed
by Colleen Hoover
A Teacher Student Romance Book Set in High School
Eighteen-year-old Layken has moved to a new town after the loss of her father. She’s just trying to keep it all together for herself and her family.
Then she meets her new neighbor Will, a twenty-one-year-old whose mere presence leaves her flustered and whose passion for poetry slams thrills her.
Not long after a heart-stopping first date their new relationship comes to a sudden halt when Layken walks into his classroom.
Daily interactions become impossibly painful and it’s only through the poetry they share are they able to speak the truth that is in their hearts.
If you’re new to Colleen Hoover’s work, why not start where it all began with her debut novel? While this is a teacher student romance, there isn’t much of an age gap but there is a lot of poetry if that’s your jam.
There are also two more books in the Slammed series (with one giving Will’s point of view) if it’s a keeper for you.

Veiled Innocence
by Ella Frank
A Teacher Student Romance Book Set in High School
Time. That’s all I have now. A small room, a photograph, and time. They want me to trust them and confess my wrongdoings. They told me they wouldn’t judge me—they lied.
I thought we could convince the world that this wasn’t forbidden. We were wrong. Time doesn’t stand still. The clock keeps ticking, the world is unconvinced, and now…Now he is gone.
It’s a bit hard to grasp what this teacher student romance book is all about with the book synopsis, but half the fun sometimes is going into things blind.
Switching back and forth from past and present, you get a romance where the girl is struck by her history teacher and has to have him. Buckle up for this one!
Rebel
by Rebecca Yarros
A Teacher Student Romance Book Set in College
Penna Carstairs is the Renegade they call Rebel. FMX-treme Magazine’s hottest female athlete of the year. She’s the woman I met in a bar in Vegas. The woman I spent one insane, incredible night with.
But now the woman I can’t get out of my head is the one woman I can never touch again. I’m Dr. Cruz Delgado—the youngest professor on this campus, and Penelope Carstairs just walked into my class.
Yes! Another teacher student romance book with a cool twist. I love that Penna is a non-traditional athlete who travels the world with her crew doing crazy stunts but you still get the forbidden romance vibe between professor and student. If you love Rebecca Yarros’ books, you’ll want to check it out.
Misbehaved
by Charleigh Rose
A Teacher Student Romance Book Set in High School
Remington Stringer has never been like most girls. She’s outspoken, brazen and wants nothing more than to escape the Nevadan rotting hole that she calls home.
On the brink of eighteen, without a mother and a well-meaning, yet absent father, she is forced to fend for herself.
When Remi gets the opportunity to attend the best private school in the state during her senior year of high school, she jumps at the chance. Then she meets Mr. James. Ornery, aloof, totally irresistible and the man she wants.
Sparks fly in this teacher student romance between the senior and her debate teacher. Remi is quite the temptress but like any romance, there is more under the surface to these characters.
Female Teacher Student Romance Books
To Professor with Love
by Linda Kage
A Teacher Student Romance Book Set in College
On this campus, I’m worshiped. While seven hundred miles away, back in my hometown, I’m still trailer park trash, and older sibling to three kids who are counting on me to keep my life together so I can take them away from the same crappy life I grew up in.
One person sees the real me but I can’t have him. Dr. Kavanagh’s my literature professor. If we start something and get caught, my family’s future is over, but I can only resist so much.
If you’re looking for a teacher student romance book where the teacher is a woman, then this is your pick. These are few and far between so I had to include it on my list.
Plus, if you like heroes who are star quarterbacks but also down on their luck behind the scenes, then you’ll love Noel.
On the Island
by Tracey Garvis Graves
A Teacher Student Romance Book Set on an Island
With his cancer in remission, sixteen-year-old T.J. Callahan just wants to get back to normal life, not catch up on missed schoolwork at their Maldives summer home.
Anna Emerson is a thirty-year-old English teacher who jumps at the chance to spend the summer on a tropical island tutoring T.J. only the unthinkable happens.
Their private plane takes a nose dive, leaving them stranded on an uninhabited island.
As the days turn to weeks, and then months, and as birthdays pass, these two lost souls must come to terms with their situation and find companionship in one another in the moments they need it most.
While at first the age gap seemed a bit sketchy to me, I love the unique take on this teacher student romance book aka tutor student romance.
Not only is it a slow burn romance but there is so much suspense in this “will they survive?” scenario. I loved the movie Castaway so adding a bit of romance to this island tale sounds so perfect.
Lessons in Corruption
by Giana Darling
A Teacher Student Romance Book Set in High School
He was eighteen. The heir to a notorious MC. And my student. There was no way I could get involved. No way I could stay involved. Then, no way I could get out alive.
I haven’t yet read this teacher student romance so I can’t add much to this book blurb but I love that it features a female teacher and also has an MC angle to it.
There’s also the age gap so it has that too. If you like variety, then check it out for a bit of a different teacher student romance!
What Makes the Teacher Student Romance Trope So Popular?
Of all the romance book tropes, what is it about teacher student romance books that make them so popular?
Is it the forbidden nature of the attraction between characters?
Is it a reader’s fantasy that they can live out on the page?
Two popular reasons romance readers love this trope is the idea of a forbidden romance story and the age gap between characters.
Forbidden Romance
Given the power dynamic between teacher and student, books in this trope fall into the forbidden romance category.
One character is in a position of authority over the other (think grading and classroom discipline) which often creates an unequal power dynamic and forbidden relationship.
Teacher student romance books set in high school often fit into the forbidden romance category as well given the age of the student.
Age Gap Romance
Books in the teacher student romance book trope are considered forbidden because there is often an age gap between characters (though not always).
Students in high school can be 18 while the teacher is in their twenties, thirties or even older.
Unless the book is very forbidden, the student in most teacher student romance books are at least the age of consent when and if any bedroom activities occur.
I personally prefer books in this trope that don’t have a significant age gap.
If this isn’t your cup of tea either, there are still plenty of teacher student romance books to explore where the teacher and student are closer in age.
Regardless of the draw of these books, this book list has recommendations for the lovers of this trope and the reader who may have some trepidation but would like to check it out.
Variety in the Teacher Student Romance Trope
As with most romance categories and tropes, there is a lot of variety in the teacher student romance trope, giving you lots of options when it comes to picking the right book for you.
Different Schools
Books in this trope cover teachers and students in a variety of school settings.
You can pick a teacher student romance set in high school, college, graduate school, or even community college.
Different Teachers
If you have a preference for a specific type of teacher, gender of teacher, or type of relationship explored in your teacher student romance, there is variety there too.
You can pick a teacher student romance where the teacher is a high school teacher, a college professor, or even a tutor or teacher’s assistant.
Different Relationships
You also have options if you prefer relationships between male teacher and female student, male teacher and male student or female teacher and male student.
I honestly have yet to find a book with a female teacher and female student but I’m sure there are some out there!
My book list below offers a lot of variety when it comes to age gap, gender of the teacher and student and location of school.
Check out all of the book descriptions and see what fits your interests.
Happy reading!
