Toe to Toe Summary:
Allegra Hart has been working her whole life to achieve one goal: become a principal ballerina. When her director starts holding auditions for the lead role in the companyโs latest production, Allegra sees this as her chanceโmaybe her last chance.
The catch? The director wants someone with sex appeal, and he doesnโt think sheโs up to the task. Determined to prove him wrong, Allegra enlists the help of the lead dancer of an all-male revue, Cord Donovan, a classically trained dancer who is also the sexiest man sheโs ever met. In exchange for lessons on how to ramp up her sex appeal, she promises to help Cord choreograph a new partner piece for his show.
As they practice their moves on and off the stage, Allegra and Cord find themselves battling a growing attraction, all the more illicit because Cord has sworn to never partner with a ballerina. Allegra is determined not to let a man derail her career, but what if she could have both love and success? Or will her involvement with Cord jeopardize everything sheโs worked for?
Toe to Toe My Review:
This book gave my imagination SO much to work with given Cord and his fellow Six Pact dancers and their Magic Mike show. I loved how Falon used this pop culture franchise as part of her story with a ballerina trying to achieve her dreams.
Iโm a total sucker for romance books where the hero has to give โlessonsโ to the heroine and I loved every single lesson Cord gave Allegra to help her find her confidence and her own sex appeal. Honestly, each lesson got better and better up to and including her โfinal test.โ Falon picked the perfect opportunities to either bring these two together or to stoke the chemistry that was already forming. They really helped with the pacing of the story.
You can also tell that Falon did her research on the ballet industry and weaved in some of the darker aspects that unfortunately mar this world and its dancers, but these elements didnโt overshadow the growing love story which I appreciated.
This was such a fun, fresh story that I really enjoyed.
