Finding the One Summary:
Their parents being family friends, American/English aristocrat, Blake Sharp, and Scottish playboy Alasdair Wallace were thrust together all through their childhoods. Blake thought Dair was a filthy, obnoxious, little boy bully. Dair thought Blake was a spoiled, prissy wee miss.
Then Blake grew up to be a beautiful, loving woman who took care of everyone and made amazing pistachio muffins. And Dair grew up to be a protective, fun-loving, hard-living professional rugby player.
In the meantime, theyโd both been deeply betrayed by lovers. When their paths cross again, Blake is still reeling from her fiancรฉโs treachery and what she learned about herself during it.
Dair thinks heโs recovered from a marriage to a woman who was not at all what she seemed, and now heโs smitten by the woman Blake has become. So smitten, he has every intention of exploring what they can grow to be together.
But their combined family history is filled with secrets and lies. Secrets and lies that explode in their faces. And while they deal with that, ghosts from the past rise up and threaten to haunt their future. Is what they built together strong enough to hold true? Or will their personal demons tear them apart?
Finding the One: My Review
Kristen Ashley writes the most epic romance books and the best Scotsmen!
Finding the One is my first read in Ashleyโs River Rain series but I could not pass it up after reading the book summary and knowing that she was going to make me fall for a Scotsman with the best brogue.
What I love most about Kristin Ashley books is how perfect her writing is, how fully dimensional her characters are and how each romance feels like an immersive experience beyond just falling for the main characters and love story.
Finding the One will absolutely captivate because of the intense chemistry between Blake and Dair. I love that these two have a past, having grown up spending a week over the summer with each othersโ families, but who now find themselves all grown up and unable to deny their attraction.
Meeting at Blakeโs sisterโs wedding, it appears that they are two opposites with Blake pegged as a controlling socialite and Dair as the roguish brute who likes to push her buttons but it becomes apparent pretty quickly how perfect they are for one another.
Because I didnโt read any prior books in the series, particularly book three which was Blakeโs sisterโs story, I did feel like I was plopped right into an existing story but you get caught up pretty quickly and just go along for the ride.
And because Ashley crafts such epic romances, Finding the One was not only about Blake and Dair falling for each other and trying to make it work, but it also looked at Blakeโs relationship with her mother and family members and her evolution as a person as well as Dairโs own hang ups when it comes to trust in relationships.
If you love romance books with hot Scotsmen then you are in for a real treat with Dair. I loved his dialogue when the brogue would creep in. He is such a strong but tender alpha male who is the perfect match for Blake.
It had been some time since I read a Kristin Ashley book but this one felt like coming home to her work. Now to circle back and read the previous books in the series!
