What got me with this one is how much their history matters. There’s so much love already between them that you feel everything at stake when the possibility of more finally becomes impossible to ignore. This may be my favorite Carley Fortune book yet, and George is a HUGE reason why.

You know something happened on their last trip that changed everything between them, but Emily Henry slowly reveals how much these two have always meant to each other. The history, missed opportunities, and fear of losing the friendship make the eventual payoff so satisfying.

Matt is exactly the kind of hero who makes me fall hard for this trope. Lane is dealing with anxiety and finds herself at a crossroads in her life, and Matt simply becomes the person who is there for her, no matter what she needs and without asking for anything in return.
The fact that this man helps her completely revamp a school bus into her new home should tell you something! But it’s the emotional safety underneath those actions that got me. Matt gives Lane the space and support to figure out what she wants for herself, making the eventual shift in their relationship feel incredibly tender and earned.

Blindsided is such a fun one because Freya and Mac have a friendship that feels completely genuine before they ever cross a line. When Freya confesses during a game of Never Have I Ever that she’s a virgin, Mac offers to become her bedroom coach so she can gain some confidence.
But what I really love is Mac himself. Freya is hilarious, but she also makes some pretty harsh comments about her curvy body, and Mac absolutely does not let her get away with them. His pep talks may be just as good as his “lessons.” Of course, they think they can do all this and then simply go back to being best friends. Sure. That always works.
The Cheat Sheet

Of course, we readers know exactly what’s going on, which is half the fun. When circumstances push them into a fake relationship, all those carefully hidden feelings become a lot harder to ignore. This is a sweet, low-steam pick that really plays up the delicious frustration of two people who are so clearly meant to be together.

Luka already knows Stella, supports her, and fits into her life so naturally that pretending to be a couple doesn’t feel like much of a stretch. The real question becomes why these two have spent so long pretending they’re not one.

It’s emotional, steamy, and one of my favorite MM romances.

If you like the “teach me how to date” setup with a LOT more heat, Before Jamaica Lane is one of my favorites. Olivia and Nate have become close friends, but after a disastrous attempt at dating leaves Olivia convinced she needs more experience, Nate offers to help build her confidence with a few lessons of his own.
You can probably guess how well keeping things platonic goes from there. What I love is that their friendship gives the physical relationship so much more weight because Olivia isn’t experimenting with some random guy. This is Nate, someone she already trusts and cares about, and once they cross that line, going back becomes a whole lot harder.
