Well Getting Played sure hooks you from the start with what I’d consider an ultimate fantasy if it were to come true.
If I were single, I’d totally want a hot drummer to eye f*ck me all night while his band plays and then seek me out the moment their set is done and THEN fuck me all night long.
Yeah, I’d so be down with that happening. Lainey Burrows however is the lucky recipient of this hot night with Dean Walker in Getting Played.
After this initial meeting, the story proceeds as you’d anticipate when Lainey finds out that she’s accidentally knocked up from her one night stand- the man who now just happens to be her teenage son’s new math teacher.
While I loved how Lainey and Dean ultimately claimed their HEA, there didn’t seem to be much depth to the story.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a fan of unwarranted drama but I felt like it just sweetly traveled along to the HEA when maybe there could have been even more to this story or maybe more to the feelings they were struggling with.
Overall, I’d say it was a sweet love story where the town hottie who never settled down falls hard for the single mom/blogger who’s the momma of his baby to be.
I really liked Dean because he was just a great guy!
We already know he’s a hot drummer who can dish out the orgasms but we come to see what a great teacher he is and how he really cares for his students.
Plus, he shows what a great father he will be in his interactions with Lainey’s son, and he steps up time and time again for Lainey. Overall, he’s just plain awesome.
While I absolutely love Emma Chase and all of her books, I’d say that I enjoyed this book but it didn’t overall wow me.
I’m just used to her giving me all the feels (from her Tangled series and The Royally series) but this one was just a sweet, quick read that perhaps didn’t strike me as a 5 star book only because it wasn’t very original in the plot line.
That being said, I adore her writing and her character development and always wait with bated breath for her next book debut!
I’d recommend this book if you’re looking for a sweet love story that features an “oops” pregnancy after a one night stand.
