Practice Makes Perfect Summary:
Annie Walker is on a quest to find her perfect matchโsomeone who complements her happy, quiet life running the local flower shop in Rome, Kentucky.
But finding her dream man may be harder than Annie imagined. Everyone knows everyone in her hometown, and the dating prospects are getting fewer by the day.
After she overhears her latest date say she is โso unbelievably boring,โ Annie starts to think the problem might be her.
Is it too late to become flirtatious and fun like the leading ladies in her favorite romance movies? Maybe she only needs a little practice . . . and Annie has the perfect person in mind to be her tutor: Will Griffin.
Willโthe hot, tattooed, and absolutely gorgeous bodyguardโis temporarily back in Rome, providing security for Amelia Rose as excitement builds for her upcoming marriage to Noah Walker, Annieโs brother.
He has one personal objective while on the job: stay away from Annie Walker and any other possible attachments to this sleepy town.
But no sooner than he gets settled, Will finds himself tasked with helping Annie find the love of her life by becoming the next leading lady of Rome, Kentucky.
Will wants no part in changing the sweet and lovely Annie.
He knows for a fact that some stuffy, straitlaced guy wonโt make her happy, but he doesnโt have the heart to say no.
Amid steamy practice dates and strictly โeducationalโ tutoring lessons, Annie discovers there are more layers to Willโs usual stoic attitude.
As the lines of their friendship become dangerously blurred, Annie reconsiders her dream guy. Maybe her love life doesnโt need to be perfectโit just needs to be real.
Practice Makes Perfect: My Review
I love it when a book totally takes me by surprise and ends up being the full package!
It didnโt take long for me to realize that this was absolutely going to be a 5-star read. Adams dazzled in this relationship coach romance and proved that she definitely has the writing chops to keep cranking out phenomenal books.
There is so much to love about Practice Makes Perfect. You have a great small-town romance with adorable side characters, a strong family and a great friend. You have a really fun relationship coach story where the hottie bodyguard signs up to โteachโ the sweet flower shop owner how to be comfortable on dates who ends up giving her all her firsts.
But the real showstopper of this romance are the main characters, their banter and their interactions together.
I mean, Adams could not have written their dialogue any better. I was just instantly hooked by these two who were instantly hooked by each other.
โIt seems to me, Annie, that you are just waiting for someone to give you permission to be yourself out loud.โ
– Practice Makes Perfect by Sarah Adams
Annie and Will may seem like apparent opposites โ her the virginal โgood girlโ and him the playboy bodyguard – but they see each other so well (and unlike anyone else) and when they are honest with one another, it is such a safe place.
Will can share about his past and Annie can share the feelings sheโs kept hidden about hers and how she doesnโt like the mold people have cast her in all of her life.
Both of them can also be very honest that theyโre falling for each other despite wanting different things and yet recognize itโs also hard being just friends once admitting that.
Seriously, the conversation and banter between these two is just perfect, fresh and honest. I didnโt want the book to end because I loved the authenticity of these two characters and how seamlessly they fit together from the start. It was just inevitable.
Annieโs constant use of different names for him and their ability to play off each other was so awesome!
Even the required moment of conflict for every romance book fit perfectly for the tone of the book and wasnโt crazy dramatic.
Her explanation about a text he saw (no spoilers!) was just so perfectly handled. These characters are relationship goals and a perfect example of what it means to communicate in a relationship with your partner!
Can I write perfect any more?!
Of course, Sarah Adams keeps this romance pretty closed door which I was OK with this time because it fit.
Itโs books like these that make me feel like any review is just inadequate to capture my feelings and love for the characters.
These two are definitely in the running for couple of the year but this book is definitely on my list of best romance novels of 2023 and Will earned his own spot on my list of best book boyfriends of 2023!
