Summer Romance: My Book Review
Sometimes you find a book that instantly hits home, delivering all the feels and the best happily ever after. Summer Romance is the perfect romance for summer but really any time of year because Ali and Ethan’s love story is not to be missed! One of the best romance books of 2024!
Summer Romance is hands down my favorite Annabel Monaghan book, solidifying her as one of my go-to authors for summer reads each year.
This woman can not only write, but she’s made me fall in love with a skateboarder named Scooter.
From the moment I read the first chapter and opening scene, I was all in for Ali. This woman was struggling – going through a separation while raising three kids, grieving her mother whom she lost two years ago, and feeling stuck in her life and literally stuck wearing sweatpants day after day.
Despite being a professional organizer, her life was a mess – internally and externally and it took her dog peeing on a cute stranger as the impetus for her to finally take a few steps to course correct and get her moving in the direction she needed and wanted to go in.
Ethan, who’s shoes and socks were the casualties of Ferris’ peeing incident, was the perfect hero of this story. I’ve fallen for quite a few book boyfriends over the years but if you told me I’d be falling for a skateboarder names Scooter who shares that he’s “unreliable” on a first date and who casually dresses up in costume for shock value, I’d say you were crazy. But fall I did and then some.
Ethan was amazing. Such a good friend, confident and someone overlooked too often by his own family and community but who fell for Ali when he was fourteen and burned a candle for her ever since.
He fit into her life so effortlessly and without demands or difficulty but instead helped her move from the stalemate she was in. Who knew that a bit of support, a few skateboarding lessons and an unending determination from this man would help Ali to organize her life, let go a little bit and become the person she once was or had left behind.
Their love story was so beautiful but there is so much more to love about this book. I loved Ali’s realization about her mother’s role in her life and marriage, I loved her questioning about how much parenting to just the right amount. I loved the found family that was created in this small town and her sweet neighbor who really packed a punch whenever she was on the page.
I listened to this book as an audiobook and found it to be fantastic and now recommend it as one of the best romance audiobooks worth listening to. I read it for a second time in preparation for our discussion in the She Reads Romance Books Club and fell in love with it even more.
I cannot recommend this book enough and am now counting down to Monaghan’s next release!
