The Mating Game Summary:

Contractor Tess Covington has spent her entire life as a regular non-shifter human, so after she lands in the Denver ER with flu-like symptoms, it comes as a complete shock to be told that, no, she’s not sick—she’s actually a late-presenting omega wolf shifter. With her family in dire financial straits and a contract for her own television show on the line, she can’t afford not to complete the renovation job she came for. And given that her newly emerged wolf is in danger of going into heat, she’ll just have to do her best to follow the doctor’s advice to keep away from alpha shifters.

Alpha wolf Hunter Barrett has spent most of his adult life living by a routine, and a big part of that involves staying clear of omegas after having one stomp on his heart. So when the tiny contractor shows up at his place smelling like the one thing he’s determined to avoid, he thinks it must be some sort of cosmic joke. But with his lodge on the verge of failing and this sweet-smelling omega his only hope to turn things around . . . he’s left with few other options than to grin and bear it.

Set on avoiding each other as much as possible, they find things unexpectedly starting to heat up between them enough to thaw even the frostiest of hearts. Though even with the pair going head over paws for each other, there’s no changing that their fling has an expiration date. The more time they spend together, the more they realize they’re playing a dangerous game—one where the only thing on the line is their hearts.

The Mating Game: My Review

Lana writes the BEST wolf shifter romance books, and as for books with knotting – she’s one of the masters!

When Lana announced that she was writing another wolf shifter romance I was ecstatic because I have been obsessed with The Fake Mate ever since it came out. There’s something about shifter romances that I cannot get enough of and The Mating Game absolutely hit the spot.

This is a must-read romance for those who are equally obsessed with knotting and shifter heats that makes both the alpha and omega in this one go feral.

And Lana doesn’t give us just one mega heat. Oh no, she gives us a few mini heats to really stoke the fire and build up the chemistry between Tess and Hunter and they were FIRE. Plus, who knew that knot massage was a thing and that I’d love it?!

But in addition to all the incredible steaminess, I really like the backstories for Tess and Hunter which made them quite hesitant of their growing feelings, making them question if it was smart to get involved with the other and whether or not it was just hormones behind their attraction.

The fact that it was also a forced proximity romance with Tess as the super talented contractor set to revitalize Hunter’s family lodge and that they get snowed in for a period of time, this book included so many of my favorite tropes that I pretty much read it in one sitting.

Tess’s brothers were hilarious, her father the sweetest, and her best friend amazing (here’s hoping that we are getting ANOTHER shifter romance with her happily ever after next!) who provided just enough “extra” so it wasn’t just Hunter and Tess getting in each other’s pants – but of course that’s what I loved most.

This new release can be read as a standalone but you do get a great tie-in with the characters from The Fake Mate which was fun to see and which provided the perfect jumping off point for Tess discovering that she is actually a shifter and an omega at that.

If you’re looking for a fun, steamy shifter romance that will just hit the spot, look no further than The Mating Game.
