The After Series: A Wattpad Success Story

The After series is written by romance author, Anna Todd. When Todd became obsessed with the boy band, One Direction, she started writing fan fiction short stories on her iPhone and posting them on Instagram.

As they gained popularity, a follower told her about the platform, Wattpad, where Todd began writing and posting one chapter at a time.

Without any prior outlining or story planning, the After series grew to be a 100-chapter story and a true Wattpad sensation.

Since her first post in April 2013, the After series has accumulated over 2 billion reads on Wattpad and there doesn’t appear to be any stopping in sight.

Not bad for an army wife who just started writing on her phone!

Given the huge reception and success of her story on Wattpad, Todd’s work was picked up by Gallery Books, a division of Simon & Schuster publishing.

The story was turned into an edited, five-book series of New York Times bestselling novels though the original version is still available on Wattpad if you want to check it out there.

From After Series to Publishing

Todd has not stopped since publishing the After series.

In 2019 she founded her own media company, Frayed Pages Media. Then in 2021, she joined forces with Wattpad and created the publishing imprint Frayed Pages x Wattpad Books.

After Series Graphic Novels

Anna Todd is also capitalizing on another publishing trend and that is graphic novels.

After: The Graphic Novel was published in May 2022, and is the first publication by Todd’s imprint company collaboration, Frayed Pages x Wattpad Books.

This graphic novel is the first in a multi-title collection that will present the entire After series as romance graphic novels.

The After Series Movies

Anna Todd’s work hasn’t stopped at just writing and publishing. She is also a producer and screenwriter for the After series movies!

In case you didn’t know, the first four books in the After series have been made into movies, with the latest dropping in 2022.

After, released in 2019, was even voted Best Drama Movie of 2019 in the People’s Choice Awards!

But fans can get excited because a fifth movie, based on the last novel in the After series, Before, is in the works!
