My Review of Axe Marks the Spot
Thank goodness for Axe Marks the Spot because this book pulled me out of a deep reading rut and reminded me just how much fun romance can be.
Never would I have guessed that the overall feeling I’d have reading this kinky book would be fun but I enjoyed every moment of this empowering romance that explored a developing Dom/sub relationship between a local lumberjack and an overworked single mom.
Lindsey is a heroine I think so many women will identify with, whether they’re divorced or not. She’s constantly juggling work, parenting, housework, and everyone’s needs but her own. She’s exhausted, overwhelmed, and, quite frankly, horny. Watching her finally allow someone to help shoulder some of that mental load made her journey incredibly satisfying.
One of my favorite aspects of the story was how Kayla used the Dom/sub dynamic as a catalyst for Lindsey’s personal growth rather than simply as a vehicle for the romance’s steam. Dane initially becomes Lindsey’s anonymous professional Dom, helping her establish routines and structure that bring order back into her chaotic life. I honestly found myself wishing I had my own professional Dom because Lindsey’s life genuinely became easier under Dane’s guidance.
Of course, I loved when their anonymous coaching relationship evolved into an in-person Dom/sub relationship. The chemistry between them is undeniable, but what truly made the romance work was Dane himself. He isn’t dominant because he’s controlling. He’s dominant because he’s calm, emotionally intelligent, dependable, and deeply invested in Lindsey’s well-being. Every intimate scene emphasized communication, enthusiastic consent, trust, and Lindsey’s pleasure, creating a relationship that felt deeply intimate and completely believable.
As for Dane…This man was everything. His quiet confidence, unwavering support, and genuine appreciation for Lindsey’s curvy body made him one seriously swoon-worthy book boyfriend. Add in the adorable nickname Lindsey’s daughter gives him, and I was completely sold.
This was my first book by Kayla Grosse, and it definitely won’t be my last. Axe Marks the Spot was one of my biggest surprises of the year and a romance I absolutely devoured from beginning to end.

If you’ve been curious about BDSM romance but want a story that prioritizes trust, communication, and emotional connection just as much as the spice, I’d absolutely recommend giving this one a try. It made me an instant Kayla Grosse fan, and I’ll definitely be picking up more of her books.
