What This Book Is About
Linden Starling is a medical resident who gets along with just about everyone except Grant Cross, the grumpy pediatric plastic surgeon who makes her life at the hospital miserable.
When financial troubles lead Linden to become a high-end escort, the last person she expects as her first client is Grant. But his offer is too good to refuse, and soon their relationship becomes much more complicated than either anticipated. When Grant’s fellowship is jeopardized by his terrible people skills, Linden decides to help him improve his reputation at the hospital by pretending they’re dating. But the more time she spends with Grant, the more she realizes there may be a lot more to this intimidating surgeon than she ever imagined.
My Review of Bedside Manner
Bedside Manner is easily one of my favorite romance books of 2026 and hands down one of the best of the year. It’s one of those books where I don’t think I can adequately convey how much I loved it because my heart is so full, and I feel like any review just won’t do it justice.
That’s how I know it’s a five-star read. I knew I was in trouble when I couldn’t put it down but also realized I needed sleep to function the next day!
Stephanie Archer can write the heck out of sports romance, but man, does she shine with this one.
I dare you not to fall completely head over heels for Grant Cross, a blunt, grumpy plastic surgeon who may not have the best bedside manner but has so much more going on beneath that intimidating exterior.
This is exactly the type of book boyfriend who gets me every time.
What I adored most about Grant was his self-awareness and willingness to learn. He knows he doesn’t always communicate in a way that people respond well to, but instead of getting defensive, he’s open to understanding how he can do better, especially when it comes to helping his patients.
Is there anything more attractive than a man who genuinely wants to become better?
And don’t even get me started on his relationship with Linden.
I loved their initial friction at the hospital and how their paid arrangement and eventual fake dating force Linden to see a completely different side of this man. The chemistry is fantastic, the yearning is SO good, and the way their relationship develops had me swooning throughout this entire book.
There is one scene in particular that absolutely broke me, but I’m not sharing it because you deserve to experience it for yourself. The swoon I swooned!
But while Grant may have stolen the show for me, I adored Linden and her own growth just as much.
She’s a people pleaser who struggles to stand up for herself, especially at work, and I loved that while she was so focused on helping Grant become a better communicator, he was helping her find her own voice.
Neither was trying to change who the other person was, but they both helped each other grow in ways they really needed.
And that is what made this love story so beautiful to me.
I honestly don’t want to share much more because some of the best moments in this book are the ones you’ll want to discover for yourself. Just know that the chemistry, the yearning and the emotional connection between Grant and Linden made this one impossible for me to put down.
I received an advance reader copy. All opinions are my own.
What I Loved
- Grant Cross. His self-awareness, willingness to grow and everything that makes him so much more than the grumpy surgeon he appears to be.
- The yearning and chemistry. I couldn’t get enough of these two, especially as Linden begins to see Grant differently.
- Linden’s growth. Watching this lifelong people pleaser begin to stand up for herself was just as satisfying as watching their romance unfold.
Things to Know Before You Read
- The romance begins with a paid escort arrangement before developing into fake dating.
- Grant’s blunt communication style can make him seem harsh or intimidating, particularly at the beginning.
- Linden’s history of parental abandonment plays an important role in her character and relationships.
Final Thoughts
I don’t know what else to say except READ THIS BOOK!
Stephanie Archer completely won me over with Grant and Linden’s love story, and I already know Grant Cross is going to be one of those book boyfriends I won’t forget anytime soon.
If you love a grumpy hero who will make you swoon, incredible yearning and a romance where two people genuinely help each other become better versions of themselves, you need Bedside Manner on your reading list.
One of my favorite books of 2026, without question.
