I promise that youโll want to read this book. ๐
Though not technically a series, Iโve loved all of Madden-Millsโ football boys so I could not wait to read I Promise You which takes you back to Waylon University.
Dillon McQueen (love that name!) is finally the man on top โ ready to take his place as starting QB and make his mark on his senior season.
He just didnโt anticipate running into the girl he hadnโt been able to forget since kissing her at the freshman bonfire.
A Hero with Heart
Dillon is what made this book for me. I loved how he was fawned over by girls and yet heโs this shy bumbling guy around Serena.
Itโs so endearing and just made me smile when he felt like he wasnโt saying things right. She just twisted him in knots โ in a good way!
He also had some demons on his back and yet this was probably the least angsty of Madden-Millsโ football books.
Serena had an interesting back story as well which made her slow to trust in the love department. She wasnโt in the least bit phased by his โstar athleteโ status and I loved how she played off always forgetting his name.
To be honest, I wasnโt even aware of the issue that caused them some strive. It was mentioned briefly at the beginning but I didnโt think anything of it. It was resolved without excessive drama with both being surprisingly introspective.
Iโve loved the idea of the Waylon University legend that whomever you kiss at the freshman bonfire is one youโll never forget.
Each of Madden-Millsโ books has had its own twist on this legend without feeling repetitive.
This book can easily be read as a standalone but Madden-Millsโ other football players do make a quick appearance which was a nice surprise.
Overall, it was a good, fun read which I easily flew through in a day. A feel-good romance for sure.
Fans of new adult, college romances will enjoy this read as will lovers of football sports romance books.
