I promise that you’ll want to read this book. 😊
Though not technically a series, I’ve loved all of Madden-Mills’ football boys so I could not wait to read I Promise You which takes you back to Waylon University.
Dillon McQueen (love that name!) is finally the man on top – ready to take his place as starting QB and make his mark on his senior season.
He just didn’t anticipate running into the girl he hadn’t been able to forget since kissing her at the freshman bonfire.
A Hero with Heart
Dillon is what made this book for me. I loved how he was fawned over by girls and yet he’s this shy bumbling guy around Serena.
It’s so endearing and just made me smile when he felt like he wasn’t saying things right. She just twisted him in knots – in a good way!
He also had some demons on his back and yet this was probably the least angsty of Madden-Mills’ football books.
Serena had an interesting back story as well which made her slow to trust in the love department. She wasn’t in the least bit phased by his “star athlete” status and I loved how she played off always forgetting his name.
To be honest, I wasn’t even aware of the issue that caused them some strive. It was mentioned briefly at the beginning but I didn’t think anything of it. It was resolved without excessive drama with both being surprisingly introspective.
I’ve loved the idea of the Waylon University legend that whomever you kiss at the freshman bonfire is one you’ll never forget.
Each of Madden-Mills’ books has had its own twist on this legend without feeling repetitive.
This book can easily be read as a standalone but Madden-Mills’ other football players do make a quick appearance which was a nice surprise.
Overall, it was a good, fun read which I easily flew through in a day. A feel-good romance for sure.
