Yours Truly Summary:
Dr. Briana Ortiz’s life is seriously flatlining. Her divorce is just about finalized, her brother’s running out of time to find a kidney donor, and that promotion she wants?
Oh, that’s probably going to the new man-doctor who’s already registering eighty-friggin’-seven on Briana’s “pain in my ass” scale.
But just when all systems are set to hate, Dr. Jacob Maddox completely flips the game . . . by sending Briana a letter.
And it’s a really good letter. Like the kind that proves that Jacob isn’t actually Satan. Worse, he might be this fantastically funny and subversively likeable guy who’s terrible at first impressions.
Because suddenly he and Bri are exchanging letters, sharing lunch dates in her “sob closet,” and discussing the merits of freakishly tiny horses.
But when Jacob decides to give Briana the best gift imaginable—a kidney for her brother—she wonders just how she can resist this quietly hot new doctor . . . especially when he calls in a favor she can’t refuse.
Yours Truly: My Book Review
Yours Truly just became one of my 5 star reads for 2023 – and now I love Abby Jimenez!
It’s always so gratifying to read a book that just consumes you fully and tugs on all of your heartstrings that it garners a 5-star rating that I don’t give out often.
To find a 5-star read from an author I had never read before is even more amazing because now I have to go binge-read all of Abby Jimenez’s books that I’ve yet to read!!
Yours Truly is the full package. It has amazing characters that you can’t help but love as you see them work through their struggles.
It has phenomenal writing that pulls you into their world and personal journeys, making you fall in love with these characters and the story.
It is a book that really makes you think and that had me grabbing for my tissue box on more than one occasion!
I’ll start with the characters who I wish I didn’t have to say goodbye to once I reached the end.
Bianca is a woman who’s got a lot on her plate. She’s an ER doctor gearing up to take over as Chief, she’s a woman scorned whose divorce from her cheating husband is about to be finalized, and she’s an older sister watching her younger brother fall deeper into depression because of his kidney failure.
Jacob is an ER doctor who just transferred to Bianca’s hospital to get away from his ex-girlfriend who is now marrying his younger brother. He’s someone who lives with extreme anxiety who has an adorable three-legged dog.
Both of these characters are at a tough crossroads in their relationship life, having been hurt from their previous partners and left with vulnerable hearts.
Jimenez gives them the best meet-cute that actually starts their relationship off on the wrong foot but one that grows into understanding and then an adorable fake relationship.
But beyond the amazing characters and growth they demonstrated, I loved how Jimenez really made me think about what love is and what love looks like.
Bianca’s faith in men was pretty much non-existent by the time she met Jacob but he SAW her, understood her, and was prepared to do anything to help her trust him and what they had. It was beautiful.
And not to give spoilers but when he asked that final question about what he could do to earn her trust, I didn’t think he’d be able to figure out how to give her what she needed but boy did he deliver and it just made so much sense and tied into the book so perfectly!
I honestly fell in love with this book the moment they started exchanging letters at work.
For someone with such anxiety, I loved how Jacob could use letter writing as a way to connect with Bianca that would give her a look into who he was as a person and man.
It was such a romantic way to establish their relationship though I only wish it continued longer!
The accompanying stories about Bianca’s brother Benny and his need for a kidney transplant were really great (and it was cool to read why Abby Jimenez chose this storyline in her author’s notes).
I also liked the storyline of Jacob’s saga with his ex-girlfriend and how that unfolded.
From the outside looking in, you can easily jump on the hate train when it came to Bianca’s and Jacob’s exes, and yet the scenes Jimenez wrote towards the end where Bianca especially reflected on her husband’s feelings were really powerful to read.
I am SO happy I read this book and now consider myself an Abby Jimenez fan for life.
Definitely read this book if you love office romances, books about doctors, fake relationship, and fake dating romances, and books that are the full package! It’s now on my list of best romance novels of 2023.
