What This Book Is About
Morgan and Fox have been together since they were fourteen, and their marriage includes an established Dom/sub relationship they’ve had years to explore together. But they’re also interested in finding a third partner who can truly fit into the relationship they’ve built.
Enter Nathan, who finds himself snowed in with the married couple at their cabin before Christmas. There’s immediate attraction among all three, and Nathan soon gets the opportunity to explore his attraction to both Morgan and Fox while they discover that he may be exactly the person they’ve been looking for.
And with nowhere to go thanks to all that snow, things heat up VERY quickly.
My Review of Axes & O’s
Buckle up because Kayla Grosse brings some serious steam in Axes & Oโs and it was soooo delicious.
I actually read this one after book two in the Starlight Haven Lumbersnacks series, Axe Marks the Spot, because I wanted to know Nathan, Morgan and Fox’s story. It was everything I anticipated and more.
This book wastes absolutely no time letting you know what you’re in for. It opens with Morgan and Fox in a primal play scene in the snowy woods, and once Nathan wakes up in their cabin and has his own voyeur moment, it’s pretty much on from there.
But what I liked most is that the BDSM and kink aren’t just added for the steam. Kayla uses them to show us the dynamic Morgan and Fox have built within their marriage and what they’re looking for in a third partner. Their relationship already feels incredibly solid, and I loved how honest they are with Nathan and with each other about what they want, what they’re comfortable with and how bringing someone else into their marriage could work.
Nathan’s immediate attraction to both of them also gives him the opportunity to explore a side of himself that he seems ready to finally embrace. There isn’t a lot of time for that relationship to develop slowly because the entire story takes place over just a few days, so yes, it’s very instalovey. But I could still feel the attraction and connection among all three.
And while this is definitely one of those books where the steamy scenes are a huge part of the story, I never felt like Kayla forgot about the characters in the process. The communication among Morgan, Fox and Nathan was probably my favorite part. They’re open with each other, consent is always clear, and there isn’t unnecessary relationship drama thrown in simply to create conflict.
Plus, I loved the whole snowed-in atmosphere and their names and nicknames. Fox, Little Lamb and Wolfie? Come on. This was only my second Kayla Grosse book, but between the character development, relationship dynamics and her writing, I’m definitely ready for more.
What I Loved
- The honesty and communication among Morgan, Fox and Nathan
- How established and secure Morgan and Fox felt in their marriage
- The snowed-in atmosphere
- Fox, Little Lamb and Wolfie!
Things to Know Before You Read
- The story takes place over only a few days, so the relationship develops very quickly.
- BDSM and kink are a major focus throughout the book, with multiple explicit scenes beginning very early.
- There are brief mentions of foster care and military PTSD.
Final Thoughts
Axes & Oโs is definitely for readers who want a VERY steamy romance where BDSM and kink are central to the story. Despite everything happening over just a few snowed-in days, I loved the honesty and communication between all three characters and how Kayla used Morgan and Fox’s established relationship to explore what bringing Nathan into their marriage could look like. After two books from Kayla Grosse, I’m definitely ready to read more!
