New Fall Romance Books of 2026
Fall is my favorite season. Give me crisp air, changing leaves, football games, pumpkin spice and a romance novel that perfectly captures the cozy atmosphere of autumn, and I’m happy.
This year I’m keeping track of the new fall romance books that I think deserve a spot on your radar, whether they bring all the classic autumn vibes or lean into spooky season with witches, ghosts, vampires and other paranormal twists.

If you want a fall romance that feels cozy but also a little eerie, Free Falling absolutely delivered that for me.
Clarke is a rule follower who’s spent most of her life feeling lonely, while Leith is the childhood crush she never quite got over. I loved their chemistry, the fake dating setup and the paranormal atmosphere surrounding this small town.
This was such a good mix of romance and spooky-season vibes without becoming too dark, making it an easy one for me to recommend for your fall TBR.
Pumpkin Spice & Promises

If there’s a Mr. Pumpkin competition involved, you know I’m interested.
This one really delivered on the fall atmosphere with its festival setting, pumpkin competition and small-town charm, but I also loved the quieter grumpy hero who happens to be a police officer.
If you want a low-steam romance that fully embraces pumpkin season, this is one I’d put on your list.
Big Bad Wolf

Laurie Gilmore takes the cozy small-town feel readers know her for and gives it a paranormal twist that gives off Little Red Riding Hood vibes.
I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about her move into paranormal romance, but this one worked for me and gives you that cozy comfort with a little supernatural fun mixed in.
Doomsdate

A doomsday prepper, a film professor, zombies and a first date gone spectacularly wrong make Doomsdate one of the most ridiculous fall romance setups I’ve come across this year, in the best way.
This one fully commits to its off-the-wall premise, so put it on your list if you want something funny and completely different from the cozy pumpkin-patch romances.
Grim Tidings
by B.K. Borison
Tropes: enemies to lovers, paranormal romance, opposites attract
An enemies-to-lovers romance between a grim reaper and a guardian angel sounds tailor-made for fall reading.
Given how much I love B.K. Borison’s character work, I’m especially curious to see what she does with a paranormal world and two characters who are quite literally on opposite sides.
Take a Chance, Sasha Sinclair
by Ashley Herring Blake
Tropes: opposites attract, small-town romance, sapphic romance, witchy romance
Documentary filmmaker Sasha Sinclair heads to Clare Mountain, North Carolina to investigate the story of the mysterious “Rose Witch,” only to find herself working with Margot Bishop, the descendant determined to protect her family’s legacy.
Between the witchy lore, haunted woods, occult-themed amusement park AND late-September small-town setting, this sounds made for a fall TBR.
Fall Love
by L.B. Dunbar
Tropes: small-town romance, one-night stand, accidental pregnancy, opposites attract, later-in-life romance
If you want a romance that really leans into the season, Fall Love delivers with fall dates, apple picking and plenty of small-town autumn atmosphere.
But what really sets this one apart is the couple themselves. Tate never expected a one-night stand to turn into an accidental pregnancy, giving us a later-in-life love story about two people facing a very unexpected new chapter together.
Swipe Bite

A vampire dating app gone wrong was all I needed to hear.
Add in a stoic vampire executive and the human programmer behind the app, and this sounds like such a fun way to bring vampires into the modern dating world.
Bonfire & Bliss Bookstore

A cozy bookstore, fake dating, friends-to-lovers tension and apple orchard kisses give this one plenty of reasons to earn a spot on a fall TBR.
If you’re looking for something grounded in classic autumn activities between all the witches and ghosts on this list, put this one on your radar.
Meet Cute Magic

Rosie is a witch who owns a bookstore called Meet Cute Magic and is determined to break the curse keeping her from finding love. Unfortunately, she needs the help of Jack, the grumpy owner of the gaming shop across the street.
A witchy bookstore, a curse, a ghost and grumpy-sunshine chemistry? This has cozy fall reading written all over it.
Flirty Fall Fling

A fake relationship with a billionaire in hiding plus apple orchards, hay mazes and Halloween magic?
This one doesn’t make you work very hard to find the fall vibes, which makes it a great option if that’s what matters most to you.
Something About September

Tropes: second chance romance, small-town romance, fall romance
Small-town diners, high school football and a September setting give this one plenty of cozy fall atmosphere.
At the center is a second-chance romance that brings the past back into the present, making this one a good pick if you prefer your fall romances on the sweeter, more wholesome side.
With All My Haunted Heart

Pippa is a witch hired to inspect a small-town B&B for ghosts, only to discover its attractive co-owner doesn’t want her to get rid of them. She wants Pippa to help make the B&B even MORE haunted.
A witch, ghosts, a small-town inn and an inconvenient attraction make this exactly the kind of cozy paranormal romance I want on a fall reading list.
Love You to Death
by Jenna Levine

Lucy McKenzie is hit by a bus and dies, but she’s not particularly interested in going quietly when the grim reaper arrives to take her to the afterlife.
Instead, Lucy finds herself stuck with a very unexpected companion as she tries to figure out what comes next. A romance involving an actual grim reaper gives this one an appropriately quirky, supernatural setup for spooky-season reading.
The Hocus Pocus Handbook
by Ann Aguirre
Tropes: cozy fantasy romance, grumpy sunshine, forbidden romance, marriage of convenience
Thea is a changeling raised in the wildlands who finds herself hunting down the husband who abandoned their marriage of convenience, only to be saddled with the grumpy and secretive Winter’s Hound along the way.
Fae courts, wildcraft magic, a sunshine-and-shadow pairing and a forbidden romance give this one plenty of magical fall-reading appeal.
Snatched by the Scarecrow

Harper leaves the city behind for a fresh start in an old farmhouse, where she quickly becomes fascinated by the scarecrow standing in her field.
The townspeople claim he’s responsible for their abundant harvests, but on Halloween night Harper discovers there’s a lot more to both Silas Valley and her mysterious scarecrow than she realized.
Yes, this is a scarecrow romance. If ever there were a season to give one a try, it’s fall.
Hexy Beast

Impulsive witch Effie finds herself unexpectedly tied to Darius, the grumpy head of a werewolf pack, when a pack elder declares that the two are fated mates.
Now they’re stuck together navigating pack politics while trying to ignore their growing attraction. Witches, werewolves and a blue moon make this one an easy pick for a paranormal fall TBR.
You’re the One That I Haunt

Libby has been secretly in love with her best friend for years when she meets his handsome cousin Trip, a ghost only she can see who needs her help breaking a family curse.
Helping Trip means making sure her crush’s upcoming wedding actually happens, but Libby may discover she’s been pining for the wrong man all along. The fact that her other option is a ghost makes this especially fun for spooky season.
Entities to Lovers

Paranormal medium Rory spends her nights leading ghost tours through Boston alongside Ezra, the rival tour guide who constantly gets under her skin.
When the two disturb a matchmaking ghost and end up cursed, they’re forced to stick together to avoid some seriously bad luck. Rival ghost tour guides + a meddling ghost feels like exactly the kind of rom-com I want on a fall TBR.
Alma Vampires

Valle’s life changes overnight when she unexpectedly inherits a fortune and control of a fashion empire, only to discover that her new life also comes with a dangerous century-old blood debt.
Enter Hadrian, a wealthy and secretive vampire who may be the only person who can protect her. An heiress, a fashion empire AND a vampire tied to an old blood debt makes this one of the more intriguing paranormal releases on my fall list.
Sunflower Season

Burnt out by her tech career, June quits her job and buys a crumbling sunflower farm in rural Oklahoma, only to come face-to-face with Noah, the first love she left behind years ago.
A sunflower farm, small-town setting and second-chance romance make this a nice option if you want a later-season read without any ghosts or witches in sight.
