Oh I love it when I find a phenomenal book series! One fantastic book is great, but to find a series of great books? It’s heaven.
I absolutely loved the first book in this series, Hard to Handle (it was one of my 5 star reads of 2020!) and couldn’t wait to read this book featuring yet another Kincaid sister.
And let me tell you I loved Lennox and Rush’s story!
A Fantastic, Forced Proximity Story
I’m such a fan of forced proximity love stories and this sort of falls that trope.
While neither Lennox or Rush are forced to stay at the same beach house in L.A., they both find themselves crashing at a friend’s pad as an escape.
Lennox Kincaid has run to L.A. because she’s hit a bit of a “what am I doing with my life” patch in her career while also feeling like she’s losing her families trust as well as the respect of those in the industry.
Rush has fled to L.A. for 3 months to escape a scandal that’s jeopardizing his place on his team in the U.K.
Although they soon realize that Lennox is hired to convince Rush to stay in the U.S. and play for Major League Soccer, they can’t resist their attraction despite the working relationship.
I think what I loved most about this book is that it didn’t take the usual trajectory of a typical office romance where both people fight their attraction due to the dangers in mixing business with pleasure.
That storyline was already done in book one but this story took the focus in a fresh direction, making it fresh and bold.
A Strong Heroine
Lennox is an awesome heroine in that what you see is what you get.
She is honest and up front with Rush from the start. There was no toying with him or waffling in her affections.
This was a woman who knew what she wanted, went for it and said what was on her mind.
A Wounded Hero
Rush, though. Oh man do I love this character.
He is this perfect blend of a laid back footballer, a devoted friend and a wounded man all in one.
I absolutely loved his back story which landed him in the current scandal that ultimately led him to the States and to meeting Lennox.
It had a few twists and turns and had me wondering the entire time how he was going to weather the storm.
A Devoted Family
Another aspect of this book and series which I’m loving is the dynamic between the Kincaid family – both between the sisters and between each sister and their father.
While this book can easily be read as a standalone, I think I got more insight into the family dynamic in book one which helped me to understand and appreciate everyone in this book.
Mr. Kincaid is quite the father and his moments with Lennox were pretty special.
If you haven’t read Hard to Handle, I’d highly recommend reading it first as I think you’ll get more out of reading this one if you do.
This was a great sports romance told in dual points of view.
If you love romance books with characters who have undeniable chemistry and with tortured heroes who deserve the happiest of endings, you’re going to love this book.
