April 2022 New Release Themes

This is shaping up to be the month of fake relationship romance books and friends to lovers stories for me!

I picked so many books with these tropes that I guess that says something about what sounds most interesting to me these days. 😊

I also have two MM romance books that I can’t wait to get my hands on as well as a college romance and opposites attract story.

Smartypants Romance has several titles debuting this month from their Spring 2022 release and two definitely made my list.

What new romance book release are you excited to read this April?

My Most Anticipated New Romance Book Releases for April 2022

The Wedding Crasher is an upcoming, new romance book release for April 2022.

The Wedding Crasher
by Mia Sosa

Fake Relationship Romance
Releasing April 5

Just weeks away from ditching DC for greener pastures, Solange Perreira is roped into helping her wedding planner cousin on a random couple’s big day. It’s an easy gig… until she stumbles upon a situation that convinces her the pair isn’t meant to be.

What’s a true-blue romantic to do? Crash the wedding, of course. And ensure the unsuspecting groom doesn’t make the biggest mistake of his life.

Dean Chapman had his future all mapped out. He was about to check off “start a family” and on track to “make partner” when his modern-day marriage of convenience went up in smoke.

Then he learns he might not land an assignment that could be his ticket to a promotion unless he has a significant other and, in a moment of panic, Dean claims to be in love with the woman who crashed his wedding.

Now Dean and Solange are fake-dating their way around town, but what started as a performance for Dean’s colleagues turns into a connection that neither he nor Solange can deny.

This book starts off the train of fake relationship books I hope to read this month. I cannot wait to see how Solange crashes the wedding, making her feel obligated to help Dean out with his need for a significant other. I’m assuming hilarity will ensue, making this a joyful one to check out!

Not Fooling Anyone is a new romance book release for April 2022.

Fake Relationship, College Romance
Releasing April 12

The deal is simple—pretend to be Ethan’s girlfriend for a psych study and we each get a nice payday. Despite him being a dumb jock who willingly gets punched for fun at my dad’s boxing gym, I can handle it. I’ve mastered the art of keeping others at a distance.

But suddenly we’re having to fake being in love all over campus to keep up the ruse. And when he tries to slip under the barriers I’ve worked so hard to create? Yeah, that’s not happening.

I may have misjudged him, but that doesn’t mean I’m interested. He has no idea what kind of baggage I’m carrying. A relationship is the last thing on my mind. Even if I’m not fooling anyone.

It’s been a while since I read a college romance so I’d due and I love this storyline. Money will make you do stupid things for sure, but I love how it forces these two to fake a relationship around campus.

The fact that it brings two opposites together and one is a boxer, yeah I’m digging it already!

Book Smart is a new romance book release for April 2022.

Book Smart
by Amanda Pennington

Friends to Lovers Romance
Releasing  April 14

Melanie Hirsch has spent the last few years watching her dreams of a writing career and true love fade away, settling for a dead-end job and denying my feelings for my best friend – until she finds a list of dating advice for single women to “find a husband” in the 1950s.

This launches her to try out the 1950s advice on her 21st-century dating pool and write about the results. Maybe it will launch her writing career and help her get over her best friend in the process.

Cameron Whitacre is in love with his best friend, but before he realizes what’s happening, she declares him her wingman for a dating experiment. He’ll be supportive and help her out but hopefully he can show her how he feels without jeopardizing their friendship, all before she falls for someone else.

This experiment of Melanie’s sounds super cute. I cannot wait to hear some of the 1950s advice and see how she puts it into practice. I do love the angst of a great friends to lovers romance with the will they or won’t they just communicate their feelings angst!

This will be my first Amanda Pennington novel so I’m looking forward to it!

One Way Back to Me is a new romance book release coming April 2022.

One Way Back to Me
by Carrie Ann Ryan

Second Chance Romance
Releasing  April 18

One dance at a stranger’s wedding. That’s all it took for me to fall for Alexis. And then? Disaster. Another man—her boyfriend—gets down on one knee and proposes to her. I never thought I’d see her again.

Years later, my five brothers and I need to get our new Wilder Resort off the ground, and Alexis is the only one savvy enough to help us. But there’s the little matter that I still have it bad for her.

Alexis has changed since the night we met. But there’s still a spark that we both fight until we don’t. Until that same guy who took her away from me is back to do more damage. But this time he’ll have to go through me to get her.

This book launches a new book series for Carrie Ann Ryan that focuses on the Wilder brothers who have retired from the military. This book might just become my selection for the April Romance Book Reading Challenge which is to read the first book in a series.

I love how this is a somewhat different take on a second chance romance story where the hero and heroine didn’t necessarily date in the past but definitely had a connection that ended in a “what could have been” moment.

I’m looking forward to seeing how the chemistry translates into the present when they see each other again!

Opposites Attract, Age Gap Romance
Releasing April 19

After a wild bet, gourmet grilled-cheese sandwich, and cuddle with a baby goat, Alexis Montgomery has had her world turned upside down. The cause: Daniel Grant, a ridiculously hot carpenter who’s ten years younger than her and as casual as they come—the complete opposite of sophisticated city-girl Alexis. And yet their chemistry is undeniable.

While her ultra-wealthy parents want her to carry on the family legacy of world-renowned surgeons, Alexis is fine with being a “mere” ER doctor. Yet letting their relationship become anything more than a short-term fling would mean turning her back on her family and giving up the opportunity to help thousands of people.

Bringing Daniel into her world is impossible, and yet she can’t just give up the joy she’s found with him either. With so many differences between them, how can Alexis possibly choose between her world and his?

Now this sounds like an age gap romance that I would enjoy. Maybe it had me at baby goat. 😊 I love a good opposites attract story and this surgeon/carpenter, country boy/city girl romance looks to be just that. I have yet to read an Abby Jimenez book, so maybe this will be the first.

Book Boyfriend is a new romance book release from Kris Ripper coming April 2022.

MM, Friends to Lovers Romance
Releasing  April 26

Preston “PK” Harrington the third is a writer, toiling in obscurity as an editorial assistant at a New York City publishing house. And, he’s been secretly in love with his best friend, Art, since they once drunkenly kissed in college.

When Art moves in with PK following a bad breakup, PK hopes this will be the moment when Art finally sees him as more than a friend. But Art seems to laugh off the very idea of them in a relationship, so PK returns to his writing roots—in fiction, he can say all the things he can’t say out loud.

In his book, PK can be the perfect boyfriend. Before long, it seems like the whole world has a crush on the fictionalized version of him, including Art. But when his brilliant plan to win Art over backfires, PK might lose not just his fantasy book boyfriend, but his best friend.

How can I not read a book titled Book Boyfriend? I mean that’s what I’m after with this entire book blog, plus I love a good MM romance so sign me up.

Secret crushes can also have the best angst when you just want them to connect with the person they love. Hopefully Art will get the message!

I’m also destined to have one book about a writer really knock me off my feet this year (since none have yet) so here’s hoping it’s this one.

The Long Game is a new romance book release coming April 2022.

The Long Game
by Rachel Reid

MM Hockey Romance
Releasing  April 26

Ten years. That’s how long Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov have been seeing each other. How long they’ve been keeping their relationship a secret. From friends, from family, from the league.

If Shane wants to stay at the top of his game, what he and Ilya share has to remain secret. He loves Ilya, but what if going public ruins everything?

Ilya is sick of secrets. Shane has gotten so good at hiding his feelings, sometimes Ilya questions if they even exist. The closeness, the intimacy, even the risk that would come with being open about their relationship…Ilya wants it all.

It’s time for them to decide what’s most important—hockey or love.

I loved Heated Rivalry where I first met Shane and Ilya, so I cannot wait to reconnect with these two and see what their relationship is like 10 years later.

I always enjoy romance books that look at an existing relationship and with all the complications that come after the initial “falling in love” phase. I cannot wait to read it!

That Cowboy of Mine is a new romance book release for April 2022.

That Cowboy of Mine

Cowboy Romantic Suspense
Releasing  April 26

Dillon Young is proud that she inherited her aunt’s ranch. The problem: someone is trying to run her off and is willing to do whatever it takes. So, when the irresistible Cal Bennett is found passed out on her property, Dillion is on high alert. Until someone takes a shot at her and Cal springs to her rescue.

When the hard-bodied, no-nonsense-talking cowboy points out that she may need some help, Dillion is inclined to reluctantly agree.

His proposal: pose as lovers until they find out who is after her ranch. As the danger rises and secrets are revealed, the passion explodes between them. There is no turning back.

I’ve been meaning to read more cowboy romance books so why not start with this one? Romantic suspense isn’t something that I dabble in too often either so this new release will be a big change up for me and I’m excited.

Reason to Believe is a new romance book release coming May 2022.

Fake Relationship, Brother’s Best Friend Romance
Releasing  April 26

When my pre-k student and his baby brother need an emergency foster placement, I offer to take them as I’ll do anything to keep the brothers from being split up. But my apartment’s flooded so I take up the offer to stay at my older brother’s best friend, Knox Daniels’ new place.

It doesn’t matter that I’ve been silently in love with Knox since we were kids, or that we kissed that reckless prom night because I’ll be gone by the time he moves back to our tiny town.

Except Knox just walked in…a month early. He takes one look at the boys and tells me we can make this work. We can temporarily fake a relationship to keep them from being separated by the system.

OMG I’m already in love with this story. I know foster children have a special place in Rebecca Yarros’ heart so I know that this will be one amazing story.

The fact that we have a secret crush, forced proximity and a fake relationship thrown in and I can already tell it’s going to be wonderful.

Fake Husband, Friends to Lovers Romance
Releasing April 29

I married the wrong brother, but for the right reasons. My life was a mess when I started working at Hawkins Lobster Shack. Declan Hawkins was a mess too, and he swore marrying would solve both our problems. He wasn’t wrong. And I wasn’t unhappy.

Now my marriage is over and my husband left town, leaving me alone to face the confused and hurt faces of our friends and his family.

So when his brother Finn suggests he become my fake husband so we can take that vacation Mr. and Mrs. Hawkins won, I don’t say no. Pretending Finn’s my husband is playing with fire because my long-buried feelings for him are coming back to life.

And I still have secrets to keep. Secrets that aren’t mine to share. Secrets that, if revealed, could burn this small town, and any feelings Finn might have for me, to the ground.

I honestly was hooked by these two when I read The Winter We Collided and knew that something was up between them. Now we finally get their story and I cannot wait.

Marry someone for secret reasons, divorce and then start a fake relationship with the brother you really like? Oh yeah, this is going to be good!
