Pitcher Perfect by Tessa Bailey: My Book Review

Pitcher Perfect Summary:

Boston Bearcats rookie Robbie Corrigan is living the dream. He’s made it to the NHL, his best friend/teammate and fellow “orgasm donor” is his roomie—and the women of Boston love them both. Life is sweet. That is, until he meets Skylar Paige, division 1 softball pitcher, girl least likely to take anyone’s bull…and the one member of the opposite sex immune to his charms. Robbie might be dazzled by the badass pitcher, but Skylar pegs him as a filthy player and wants nothing to do with him.

When he discovers she’s carrying a serious torch for her brother’s best friend, Robbie knows he should just go back to clubbing and whipped cream bikini parties, but he can’t seem to leave Skylar to flounder on her romantic quest to land another man. Nor can he miss out on the opportunity to spend time with her and hopefully redeem himself. Before Robbie knows it, he’s agreed to be Skylar’s fake boyfriend/love coach at an upcoming family wilderness competition where her crush will be in attendance. What could go wrong?

Through a series of contests that require them to trust each other, Robbie and Skylar grow closer and closer until their fake relationship starts to feel like the realest thing they’ve ever known and the sizzling lessons in sensuality burn out of control. But it’s all just pretend…right?

Pitcher Perfect: My Review

Tessa freakin’ Bailey – you did it again. Just when I thought the Big Shots series couldn’t get any better she gives me Robbie “Orgasm Donor” Corrigan and knocks it out of the park with Pitcher Perfect! Definitely one of the best romance books of 2025!

I’ve admittedly been obsessed with the Big Shots series ever since Fangirl Down and then I totally gobbled up The Au Pair Affair and Dream Girl Drama. But to now give us another sports romance that has several of my favorite tropes wrapped up with the hottest hockey player and a heroine after my own heart….I’m in LOVE.

Fake relationship romances are so much fun to read and they are even better when the reason for the fake relationship is to get another man’s attention and to make him jealous. Gah! Robbie was all in to help Skylar even though he fell head over heels after meeting her and it was so cute watching him do his best to win her over.

Cue the “he falls first” trope that I can’t get enough of these days. His and Skylar’s meet cute was hilarious – not only with her first words to him but how he finagled his way into a date with her. Tessa you are a genius.

Let’s not forget the reformed playboy trope is in here as well. Robbie may have quite the reputation as an orgasm donor but he sold me on his instant attraction to Sklyar. It was actually so cute how surprised he was by how much he cared and from there I was a goner for how much attention, care and love he showered on Skylar.

But one of my absolute favorite tropes is the bedroom coach trope and Skylar is one smart cookie in asking Robbie for some lessons in the bedroom. Not only is she a girl after my own heart with her obsession with her planner but the girl knows how to schedule in some hot and heavy make out sessions to build her confidence and Robbie was the perfect teacher.

Those scenes were prime opportunities for Tessa Bailey’s amazing skill at dirty talk to shine and boy did it ever. How she continues to write the best dialogue for the best characters who continue to be unique and fun and sexy and sweet and endearing all at once is unreal and what keeps me in awe of this author’s talent.

This book immediately made my list of best romance books of 2025 with Robbie earning a spot as one of my favorite book boyfriends. I love you Redbeard! I’m now even more excited for the last two books of this series which you get a glimpse of in this one.
