Things We Hide From the Light Summary:

Nash Morgan was always known as the good Morgan brother, with a smile and a wink for everyone.

But now, this chief of police is recovering from being shot and his Southern charm has been overshadowed by panic attacks and nightmares.

He feels like a broody shell of the man he once was. Nash isn’t about to let anyone in his life know he’s struggling.

But his new next-door neighbor, smart and hot Lina, sees his shadows. As a rule, she’s not a fan of physical contact unless she initiates it, but for some reason Nash’s touch is different. He feels it too.

The physical connection between them is incendiary, grounding him and making her wonder if exploring it is worth the risk.

Too bad Lina’s got secrets of her own, and if Nash finds out the real reason she’s in town, he’ll never forgive her. Besides, she doesn’t do relationships. Ever.

A hot, short-term fling with a local cop? Absolutely. Sign her up. A relationship with a man who expects her to plant roots? No freaking way.

But once Nash decides to make Lina his, he’s not about to be dissuaded…even if it means facing the danger that nearly ended him.

Things We Hide From the Light: My Review

This is the book for fans of wounded heroes. Nash stole my heart!

All I ask is that Lucy Score never stop writing!!

Should you read Things We Never Got Over before this one: YES (because it’s awesome)

Is it just as good at Things We Never Got Over: ABSOLUTELY

Am I now waiting anxiously for Lucian’s book: HECK YEAH! I NEED IT!!!

I freakin’ love Lucy Score’s writing and she delivers another masterpiece with this one. If you love small-town romance books that suck you in and make you wish the book never ends then this is the book (and series) for you.

You could probably read this as a standalone but you’d definitely be missing some pieces in my opinion. You first meet Nash in Things We Never Got Over and this continues his story.

Nash is the Chief of police in Knockemout who narrowly missed losing his life after getting shot. We find him a shell of the man he was, just going through the motions to make it through each day.

Lina is his brother’s best friend and she recently came to town for reasons of her own – and she’s the only one who makes Nash feel different, feel alive again with just a simple touch.

But ironically Lina doesn’t like unsolicited physical touch or affection given her past and has no interest in a relationship.

What I Loved About Things We Hide from the Light

What I love about Lucy Score is that she always delivers the full package: an amazing story, great character development, and a love story that tugs on all your heartstrings.

This book is a big one but I honestly never wanted it to end. It keeps you on the edge of your seat not only with the mystery behind Nash’s memory loss but with the development of Nash and Lina’s feelings toward one another.

I admit that I’m a total sucker for romance heroes with wounded hearts and Nash fits this to a tee.

I totally felt for this man who is normally a picture of positivity but who was suffering in silence with depression after his accident.

Score does such a great job of building up both Nash and Lina’s characters that I felt like I really understood them and their issues but loved how they were able to communicate and be there for one another.

For those who loved Things We Never Got Over – you are going to LOVE this book. We fall right back in with Naomi, Knox and Waylay and the whole gang of family and friends and it was amazing.

Score already had me panting for Lucian’s story after book one, but OMG do I absolutely need it after this one. I cannot wait! And it’s coming…September 5: Things We Left Behind!

I recommend this book for its amazing writing and story but it’s a definitely must-read for fans of small-town romance, romance books with mental illness themes and wounded heroes.

Truly one of the best romance novels of 2023.
