Story of My Life Summary:
Hazel Hart was a successful romance novelist until a breakup drives her straight into writerโs block. Having failed (and failed some more) to deliver her new manuscript, sheโs hiding from the world behind a wall of old takeout containers until her publisher lays down the law. If she misses her next deadline, itโs The End.
Desperate for inspiration, Hazel impulse-buys a historic home online and flees Manhattan to tiny Story Lake, PA. Upon her dramatic arrivalโinvolving an incident with a bald eagleโshe discovers the charm of her new home may have been slightly exaggerated.
The house is a wreck and the town is struggling after their biggest employer shut down. Also, since her raccoon-infested home came with a seat on the town council our introverted heroine is stuck with a front row seat to all the small-town shenanigans.
But Hazel isnโt worried. Not since all six-feet-three inches of grouchy contractor Campbell Bishop slapped a bandage on her forehead and unintentionally inspired the heck out of her. Thereโs only one thing to do: Hire Cam and his equally gorgeous brothers to renovate her new spider museumโฆerโฆhouse.
Okay two things. A fake date for โresearch purposesโ will really put her work-in-progress on track. Before Hazel knows it, sheโs writing a romance novel and living one. At least until the drywall dust settles, the town sheโs falling in love with faces bankruptcy, and growly Cam remembers why he canโt live happily ever after.
Story of My Life: My Review
Vintage Lucy Score! This book has everything I love about Lucyโs work โ fantastic writing, hilarious small town shenanigans, a swoon-worthy grump and an adorable heroine. Iโm in love!
Lucy Score has cured my book hangover that Iโm still feeling after finishing her Knockemout series. With Story of My Life, sheโs bringing her signature small town romantic comedy chops to start a brand new series and Iโm all for it.
Because of my book hangover, this book made my list of most anticipated new romance books of 2025 and it did not disappoint.
- Quirky and adorable heroine โ check!
- Grumpy hero who falls first โ check!
- Small town shenanigans with hilarious side characters โ check!
- Animals who like to cause havoc โ check!
- Hot brothers whose books Iโm now dying to have โ check!
- Laugh out loud moments with hilarious texting and banter โ double check!
Iโm not sure what more you could ask for, other than having a heroine who is a romance author in need of inspiration and who ends up living out her own romance book-worthy story.
Lucy Score just works her magic when it comes to creating a fantastic small town romance that pulls you in and hooks you with not only the main characters, but the entire cast of characters. Story Lake was adorable with its crazy racoon and bald eagle, young Mayor and a trio of really hot brothers.
The grumpy sunshine trope has become one of my favorites and this one fed everything I love about the trope.
Campbell and Hazel have a fun meet cute that doesnโt set them off on the best of terms even though she hires him to renovate the house she just bought and his family company desperately needs the work. That cues up some great forced proximity where I enjoyed Cam showcasing his abs and handiwork just as much as Hazel.
I loved his grumpiness that had its fair dose of sweetness when it counted. His banter with Hazel was so much fun to eat up, especially when things heated up between them.
Hazel was an adorable heroine to root for, especially since she was a romance author who lost her muse. I loved that she went looking for real life inspiration and didnโt have any problems asking Cam for fake dates and standing up to him when she needed to.
Fans of Lucy Score and those new to her work will undoubtedly enjoy this new book and the entire series to come.
I loved it and highly recommend it for all.
