Never has a fantasy romance series captured my love and interest like Jennifer L. Armentrout’s From Blood and Ash series.
These books and the companion series are fascinating reads and deserving of all the popularity and awards they’ve garnered.
This post is your ultimate guide to the From Blood and Ash series where you’ll learn more about the series, its related series and the recommended From Blood and Ash series book order for reading.

The Author of the From Blood and Ash Series: Jennifer L. Armentrout
New York Times bestselling author, Jennifer L. Armentrout is a force when it comes to writing.
She has written over 65 books in the young adult paranormal, fantasy, science fiction, and contemporary romance genres, and many more under her pen name J. Lynn.
While many of these books were published before the From Blood and Ash series, this book series skyrocketed her popularity among romance readers, fantasy readers, and young adult readers alike.
I love how she uses her platform as a popular author to bring awareness and educate others on retinitis pigmentosa, a group of rare genetic disorders that she was diagnosed with in 2015.
In addition to her writing, Armentrout is the owner of ApollyCon, a multi-day, annual event held in Washington DC where readers can meet hundreds of authors, publishers, and vendors.
From Blood and Ash Series Summary
The From Blood and Ash series focuses on a young maiden, Poppy who has grown up within the confining walls of a castle.
The castle is essentially one big prison cell as she’s cloistered away and prevented from talking to anyone, reading anything enjoyable, and doing anything remotely fun because she’s the Maiden.
Yet one night she rebels from the burdens put upon her and finds herself in the company of Hawke, a new soldier in her Royal Guard.
From their first meeting, Poppy and Hawke (Casteel) become forever entwined in a battle to free their lands from the wretched Queen while falling in love in the most epic story tale romance.
But as truths are revealed and enemies fought and conquered, they soon discover the path to their goal of peace is not fought without consequences.
Mixing elements of fantasy and paranormal romance, this series also brings in many romance book tropes including enemies to lovers, forced proximity, slow burn, strong heroine, and royal romance to name a few.
From Blood and Ash Age Rating
While the From Blood and Ash series is considered a young adult romance some of the later books in the series definitely venture into the more mature romance category.
Poppy is 18 years old when we first meet her in From Blood and Ash which is a relatively tame book in terms of any open door bedroom scenes. However, readers should be aware that this does change as the series continues where a lot more steamy scenes are included.
Because of this I would say that this series is for readers 17 and over but it’s ultimately up to the reader.
From Blood and Ash Map
Poppy, Casteel, and their friends travel near and far throughout the From Blood and Ash series.
To help picture their adventures and to keep names of places straight, Armentrout had this world map created (by Hang Le) to depict the Kingdoms of Solis and Atlantia.
The map first appeared in the ebook and print versions of A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire.

From Blood and Ash TV Series
This book series is so amazing with its storyline, setting, characters, adventure, and romance that I think it would make an incredible TV series. And guess what? The From Blood and Ash TV series is now in development with Amazon Studios!
There is just way too much that happens in each book and the entire book series for a single movie, but a TV series with multiple seasons will be epic.
Given the book series popularity and the popularity of fantasy TV series such as Game of Thrones, Shadow and Bone, House of the Dragon, Witcher, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, and A Discovery of Witches, I think the From Blood and Ash TV series would be a huge success.

Flesh and Fire Series: A Companion Prequel
Armentrout began another fantasy book series in 2021 as a companion to the From Blood and Ash series.
The Flesh and Fire series is a companion prequel, meant to be read together with the From Blood and Ash series, in order of the books release dates.
She says that the two timelines of both series will merge in the future and will bring the characters of both books together in the coming From Blood and Ash books.
This makes complete sense if you’ve read the books and I cannot wait for this merge to happen!
From Blood and Ash Covers
I have to say that the From Blood and Ash book covers are AMAZING. Am I right? Well, you will have to scroll down to see them all but trust me when I say that they are true works of art.
They totally give off a fantasy vibe with key items that represent the story for each book. These were created by Hang Le and are just beautiful.

My Review
Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppy’s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Never to experience pleasure.
Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods. But the choice has never been hers.
The entire kingdom’s future rests on Poppy’s shoulders, something she’s not even quite sure she wants for herself. Because a Maiden has a heart. And a soul. And longing.
And when Hawke, a golden-eyed guard honor bound to ensure her Ascension, enters her life, destiny and duty become tangled with desire and need.
He incites her anger, makes her question everything she believes in, and tempts her with the forbidden.
Forsaken by the gods and feared by mortals, a fallen kingdom is rising once more, determined to take back what they believe is theirs through violence and vengeance.
And as the shadow of those cursed draws closer, the line between what is forbidden and what is right becomes blurred.
Poppy is not only on the verge of losing her heart and being found unworthy by the gods, but also her life when every blood-soaked thread that holds her world together begins to unravel.
A Soul of Ash and Blood
by Jennifer L. Armentrout
From Blood and Ash Book 6
A great primal power has risen. The Queen of Flesh and Fire has become the Primal of Blood and Bone—the true Primal of Life and Death. And the battle Casteel, Poppy, and their allies have been fighting has only just begun. Gods are awakening across Iliseeum and the mortal realm, readying for the war to come.
But when Poppy falls into stasis, Cas faces the very real possibility that the dire, unexpected consequences of what she is becoming could take her away from him. Cas is given some advice, though—something he plans to cling to as he waits to see her beautiful eyes open once more: Talk to her.
And so, he does. He reminds Poppy how their journey began, revealing things about himself that only Kieran knows in the process. But it’s anybody’s guess what she’ll wake to or exactly how much of the realm and Cas will have changed when she does.

Everything Poppy has ever believed in is a lie, including the man she was falling in love with.
Thrust among those who see her as a symbol of a monstrous kingdom, she barely knows who she is without the veil of the Maiden. But what she does know is that nothing is as dangerous to her as him.
The Dark One. The Prince of Atlantia. He wants her to fight him, and that’s one order she’s more than happy to obey. He may have taken her, but he will never have her.
Casteel Da’Neer is known by many names and many faces. His lies are as seductive as his touch. His truths as sensual as his bite.
Poppy knows better than to trust him. He needs her alive, healthy, and whole to achieve his goals.
But he’s the only way for her to get what she wants—to find her brother Ian and see for herself if he has become a soulless Ascended.
Working with Casteel instead of against him presents its own risks. He still tempts her with every breath, offering up all she’s ever wanted. Casteel has plans for her.
Ones that could expose her to unimaginable pleasure and unfathomable pain. Plans that will force her to look beyond everything she thought she knew about herself—about him.
Plans that could bind their lives together in unexpected ways that neither kingdom is prepared for. And she’s far too reckless, too hungry, to resist the temptation.
But unrest has grown in Atlantia as they await the return of their Prince. Whispers of fighting have become stronger, and Poppy is at the very heart of it all.
The King wants to use her to send a message. The Descenters want her gone. The wolven are growing more unpredictable. And as her abilities to feel pain and emotion begin to grow and strengthen, the Atlantians start to fear her.
Dark secrets are at play, ones steeped in the blood-drenched sins of two kingdoms that would do anything to keep the truth hidden. But when the earth begins to shake, and the skies start to bleed, it may already be too late.
Pin This for Later:

The Crown of Gilded Bones
by Jennifer L. Armentrout
From Blood and Ash Book 3
Poppy never dreamed she would find the love she’s found with Prince Casteel. She wants to revel in her happiness but first they must free his brother and find hers.
It’s a dangerous mission and one with far-reaching consequences neither dreamed of. Because Poppy is the Chosen, the Blessed. The true ruler of Atlantia.
She carries the blood of the King of Gods within her. By right the crown and the kingdom are hers.
Poppy has only ever wanted to control her own life, not the lives of others, but now she must choose to either forsake her birthright or seize the gilded crown and become the Queen of Flesh and Fire.
But as the kingdoms’ dark sins and blood-drenched secrets finally unravel, a long-forgotten power rises to pose a genuine threat. And they will stop at nothing to ensure that the crown never sits upon Poppy’s head.
But the greatest threat to them and to Atlantia is what awaits in the far west, where the Queen of Blood and Ash has her own plans, ones she has waited hundreds of years to carry out.
Poppy and Casteel must consider the impossible—travel to the Lands of the Gods and wake the King himself.
And as shocking secrets and the harshest betrayals come to light, and enemies emerge to threaten everything Poppy and Casteel have fought for, they will discover just how far they are willing to go for their people—and each other.

My Review
Born shrouded in the veil of the Primals, a Maiden as the Fates promised, Seraphena Mierel’s future has never been hers.
Chosen before birth to uphold the desperate deal her ancestor struck to save his people, Sera must leave behind her life and offer herself to the Primal of Death as his Consort.
However, Sera’s real destiny is the most closely guarded secret in all of Lasania—she’s not the well protected Maiden but an assassin with one mission—one target.
Make the Primal of Death fall in love, become his weakness, and then…end him. If she fails, she dooms her kingdom to a slow demise at the hands of the Rot.
Sera has always known what she is. Chosen. Consort. Assassin. Weapon. A specter never fully formed yet drenched in blood. A monster. Until him.
Until the Primal of Death’s unexpected words and deeds chase away the darkness gathering inside her. And his seductive touch ignites a passion she’s never allowed herself to feel and cannot feel for him.
But Sera has never had a choice. Either way, her life is forfeit—it always has been, as she has been forever touched by Life and Death.
The War of Two Queens
by Jennifer L. Armentrout
From Blood and Ash Book 4
Casteel Da’Neer knows all too well that very few are as cunning or vicious as the Blood Queen, but no one, not even him, could’ve prepared for the staggering revelations.
The magnitude of what the Blood Queen has done is almost unthinkable.
Nothing will stop Poppy from freeing her King and destroying everything the Blood Crown stands for.
With the strength of the Primal of Life’s guards behind her, and the support of the wolven, Poppy must convince the Atlantian generals to make war her way—because there can be no retreat this time.
Not if she has any hope of building a future where both kingdoms can reside in peace.
Together, Poppy and Casteel must embrace traditions old and new to safeguard those they hold dear—to protect those who cannot defend themselves. But a fight is only the beginning.
Ancient primal powers have already stirred, revealing the horror of what began eons ago. To end what the Blood Queen has begun, Poppy might have to become what she has been prophesied to be—what she fears the most.

Flesh and Fire Book 2
The truth about Sera’s plan is out, shattering the fragile trust forged between her and Nyktos. Surrounded by those distrustful of her, all Sera has is her duty.
She will do anything to end Kolis, the false King of Gods, and his tyrannical rule of Iliseeum, thus stopping the threat he poses to the mortal realm.
Nyktos has a plan, though, and as they work together, the last thing they need is the undeniable, scorching passion that continues to ignite between them.
Sera cannot afford to fall for the tortured Primal, not when a life no longer bound to a destiny she never wanted is more attainable than ever. But memories of their shared pleasure and unrivaled desire are a siren’s call impossible to resist.
And as Sera begins to realize that she wants to be more than a Consort in name only, the danger surrounding them intensifies.
The threats on the Shadowlands are increasing, and when Kolis summons them to Court, a whole new risk becomes apparent.
The Primal power of Life is growing inside her, pushing her closer to the end of her Culling. And without Nyktos’s love—an emotion he’s incapable of feeling—she won’t survive her Ascension.
That is if she even makes it to her Ascension and Kolis doesn’t get to her first. Because time is running out. For both her and the realms.
