Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppy’s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Never to experience pleasure.

Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods. But the choice has never been hers.

The entire kingdom’s future rests on Poppy’s shoulders, something she’s not even quite sure she wants for herself. Because a Maiden has a heart. And a soul. And longing. And when Hawke, a golden-eyed guard honor bound to ensure her Ascension, enters her life, destiny and duty become tangled with desire and need.

He incites her anger, makes her question everything she believes in, and tempts her with the forbidden.

Forsaken by the gods and feared by mortals, a fallen kingdom is rising once more, determined to take back what they believe is theirs through violence and vengeance. And as the shadow of those cursed draws closer, the line between what is forbidden and what is right becomes blurred.

Poppy is not only on the verge of losing her heart and being found unworthy by the gods, but also her life when every blood-soaked thread that holds her world together begins to unravel.

  2. Casting is going to be difficult for the late teen Penellaphe role. Jennifer Armentrout has always stressed how voluptuous Poppy is being ‘mid to plus size.’ Hair can be dyed, eye color can be changed, fight choreography can be taught. But you need a strong actor to convey Poppy’s complexity. For Casteel, although he looks in his 20’s, he’s hundreds of years old with a smoky voice. He can’t come across as being young. Not only does Casteel have massive life experience, but he’s gone through hardcore trauma. Based on his looks, easy to cast. Based on what’s underneath that needs to come through, not so easy to cast. Honestly, I think hiring newcomers might be the way to go. Lucky for the actors who land these roles though!

  3. Actors:
    Poppy: Sadie Sink
Tawny: Amanda Stenberg or Yara Shahidi
Kieran: Jesse Williams or Rege-jean page
Casteel: nobody can live up to the beauty and fantasy he possess, he must be made in a lab 😉

  4. I vote Jamie Dornan, Rege-Jean Page or Joe Mangianelo as Casteel they all look amazingly delicious with their 5 o’clock shadow. Poppy; Nicole Peltz, Odeya Rush, Katherine Langford or Maya Hawk and for Kieran Ben Barnes and Matthew Daddario but I’m sure I’ll change my mind again… Thanks Leslie, and who do you think should be Casteel, Poppy and Kieran?
