April 2023โs Most Anticipated New Romance Books:
The Do Over
by Suzanne Park
Second Chance Romance
Releasing April 4, 2023
Lily Lee is a bestselling author of the How to Be a Supernova At Work series, and her editor wants her to strike while the ironโs hot with a new book, How to Land the Perfect Job.
But when Lily is offered a coveted position at a top firm, the employer background check reveals sheโs short a few college credits and never actually completed her degree. Unbelievably, her worst nightmare has come true.
Lily returns to her alma mater, reliving her senior year of college ten years later. She enrolls in classes, gets invited to frat parties, eats most of her meals with โdining dollars,โ and to make things even more weird and chaotic, she discovers that her computer science TA is her old college boyfriend, Jake Cho.
As Lily and Jake reconnect, she sees that her ex has done well for himself: the handsome, charming grad student appears to have his life together while Lilyโs so close to losing her dream job opportunity and her book deal.
Things aren’t so simple the second time around.
I am loving the set-up of this second chance romance! As much as I loved college, I honestly canโt imagine going back ten years later to finish my senior year but I will go along for the ride with Lily.
I hope that this book has some great comedy and some heavy steam ๐.

Single Dad Football Romance
Releasing April 6, 2023
Football star. Single dad. And once, a long time ago, mine.
Iโve spent the better part of a decade forgetting Ford Ellis. If he had just stayed away from Montana, I might have erased the memory of his striking blue eyes and rugged smile forever. Avoiding him was easy when the only place I saw his face was on ESPNโand a remote control could fix that problem.
Except my boss just hired Ford as the new head coach for the Treasure State Wildcats. Not only will I be stuck watching him on the sidelines this season, but avoiding him will be impossible now that weโre working together.
Maybe I havenโt forgotten Ford. Maybe I still dream about what we might have been. Maybe he hasnโt forgotten me either.
Except those maybes wonโt change the fact that we were never meant to be. Maybe he was mine once. But as of today, the only thing Iโll be calling Ford Ellis is Coach.
Iโve got a football romance book list in the works and Iโm wondering if this will make the cut. There is just so much to like about this book from single dad, to the second chance to the tension-filled office romance. Gah! Bring it on.

Something Spectacular
by Alexis Hall
LGBTQ Historical Romance
Releasing April 11, 2023
Peggy Delanceyโs not at all ready to move on from her former flame, Arabella Tarleton. But Belle has her own plans for a love match, and she needs Peggyโs help to make those plans a reality.
Still hung up on her feelings and unable to deny Belle what she wants, Peggy reluctantly agrees to help her woo the famous and flamboyant opera singer Orfeo.
She certainly doesnโt expect to find common ground with a celebrated soprano, but when Peggy and Orfeo meet, a whole new flame is ignited that she canโt ignore.
Peggy finds an immediate kinship with Orfeo, a castrato whoโs just as nonconforming as she isโand just as affected by their instant connection.
Theyโve never been able to find their place in the world, but as the pair walks the line between friendship, flirtation, and something more, they may just find their place with each other.
I totally loved Hallโs foray into historical romance with Something Fabulous in 2022 so Iโve been chomping at the bit to get even more with this amazing characters.
I really felt for Peggy in the last book but absolutely think she and do better than Arabella. Iโm excited to see her get her happily-ever-after and to see how opera will play a role in this sapphic romance too! I can’t wait to read this addition to Alexis Hall’s books!

Romantic Comedy
by Curtis Sittenfeld
Contemporary Romance
Releasing April 11, 2023
Sally Milz is a sketch writer for The Night Owls, a late-night live comedy show that airs every Saturday.
With a couple of heartbreaks under her belt, sheโs long abandoned the search for love, settling instead for the occasional hook-up, career success, and a close relationship with her stepfather.
But when Sallyโs friend and fellow writer Danny Horst begins dating Annabel, a glamorous actress who guest-hosted the show, he joins the not-so-exclusive group of talented but average-looking and even dorky men at the showโand in society at largeโwhoโve gotten romantically involved with incredibly beautiful and accomplished women.
Sally channels her annoyance into a sketch called the Danny Horst Rule, poking fun at this phenomenon while underscoring how unlikely it is that the reverse would ever happen for a woman.
Enter Noah Brewster, a pop music sensation with a reputation for dating models, who signed on as both host and musical guest for this weekโs show.
Dazzled by his charms, Sally hits it off with Noah instantly, and as they collaborate on one sketch after another, she begins to wonder if there might actually be sparks flying.
But this isnโt a romantic comedyโitโs real life. And in real life, someone like him would never date someone like her . . . right?
The premise of this new romance book for 2023 has me conjuring up images of Scarlett Johansson and her husband Colin Jost and how they first met on Saturday Night Live.
I like how Sittenfeld is using such a fun angle to explore societal expectations and gender relations while bringing two people together in love.
I canโt wait to read some of the sketches they write together too. Is it April yet?!

If Only You
by Chloe Liese
Brotherโs Best Friend Sports Romance
Releasing April 11, 2023
Iโm the youngest player on the National Soccer team, the baby of my family, and thoroughly sick of being underestimated, so Iโve decided to take matters into my own hands. Which is where my brotherโs best friend and teammate, the infamous Sebastian Gauthier, comes in.
Seb needs to rehab his reputation. I want to give mine an edge. So I propose a fake friendship with real benefits: spending time in the public eye, my good-girl image and his bad-boy notoriety rubbing off on each other.
Heโs my devious, dark-haired fantasy come to life, but his destructive ways make it easy to keep him in the (fake) friend zone. Or so I thought, until I start to see the heart of gold heโs been hiding beneath that sinister surface.
If you love Lieseโs Bergman Brotherโs series then you wonโt want to miss this final book about their youngest sister, Ziggy Bergman. Ziggy is a soccer player on the autism spectrum whoโs falling for her brotherโs best friend and teammate, Sebastion, who has celiac disease.
Itโs got all the best romance book tropes in it so Iโm sure itโs going to be a winner.

My Heart Will Find You
by Jude Devereaux
Time Travel Romance
Releasing April 11, 2023
When the world is brought to a standstill in the early days of a global pandemic, Etta Wilmont finds herself suddenly stranded in Kansas City. Desperate to secure a roof over her head, Etta crosses paths with Henry Logan, a lonely older man in need of a caretaker.
His invitation for Etta to stay with him seems to be the solution to both their problemsโand maybe the spontaneous adventure Ettaโs life has been missing.
As Etta and Henry settle into a companionable living arrangement, Etta indulges in Henryโs library. The compelling historical accounts of life in the Midwest soon inspire vivid dreams of Kansas City in the 1870s, dreams in which sheโs a mail-order bride, married to a handsome but guarded rancher named Maxwell Lawton.
Haunted by the story unfolding in her mind, Etta realizes her dreams of the past and the familiar faces featured within are starting to have an impact on the present, altering her current reality.
Perhaps these dreams are Ettaโs chance to finally claim something for herself after so much time spent caring for others. More than anything, Etta wonders if the captivating man sheโs falling for while she sleeps might be real, might be out thereโtrue love waiting to be found and which would change both their lives forever.
Itโs been a long time since I read a Jude Deveraux book and I love how this one brings in the idea of a current pandemic while weaving in a time travel romance.
Iโm not sure whatโs in store for Etta and where or when her happily-ever-after will end up but Iโm so intrigued and canโt wait to find out.

Theyโll never actually meet, so whatโs the harm in a little fib? Yet when real-life Gemma crosses Tansyโs path, her white lie nearly does her in.
Gemma van Dalen is a wild child, the outcast of her wealthy family, and now the latest heir to Van Dalen Publishing. But the title comes with one tiny condition: she must be married in order to inherit.
When Gemma discovers a beautiful stranger has been pretending to date her for months, she decides to take the charade one step furtherโand announces their engagement.

But the scheming Van Dalen family wonโt give up the company without a fight, and Gemma and Tansyโs newfound happiness might get caught in the fallout.
Do I want to read a steamy sapphic rom-com about a quiet bookseller and a romance novel cover model who agree to a modern-day marriage of convenience? Why yes, yes I do! ๐
Iโve totally fallen for Bellefleurโs writing with her past sapphic romances so Iโm totally on board with this new release.

As Tessa and Myles help navigate their way through their familiesโ antics, they begin to realize that their past feelings may have a futureโif only they can turn their island fantasies into something real.
This new romance book for 2023 had me at Santorini.
Meghan Quinn has me jonesing to go to Germany to experience their Christmas markets after reading her romance, The Romantic Pact, so Iโm anticipating wanting to book a trip to Santorini after reading this romance.

Iโm SO ready for a new fantasy romance and if Thalassa is writing it, Iโm on it.
There is so much to uncover about this new fantasy romance about a witch that is kicking off a brand new series.

Happy Place
by Emily Henry
Second Chance Romance
Releasing April 25, 2023
Harriet and Wyn have been the perfect couple since they met in collegeโexcept, nowโfor reasons theyโre still not discussingโthey donโt.
They broke up five months ago. And still havenโt told their best friends.
Which is how they find themselves sharing a bedroom at the Maine cottage that has been their friend groupโs yearly getaway for the last decade.
Only this year, Harriet and Wyn are lying through their teeth while trying not to notice how desperately they still want each other.
Because the cottage is for sale and this is the last week theyโll all have together in this place. They canโt stand to break their friendsโ hearts, and so theyโll play their parts.
Harriet will be the driven surgical resident who never starts a fight, and Wyn will be the laid-back charmer who never lets the cracks show.
After years of being in love, how hard can it be to fake it for one weekโฆin front of those who know you best?
I actually already read this one (gosh how I love ARCs!) and definitely recommend it if youโre a fan of Emily Henryโs books.
I absolutely loved the main characters as well as their friend group, but it was the theme of looking at how we change after leaving college and its impact on relationships and friendships that I loved the most. Check out my review of Happy Place to see if itโs a book youโll love.

Anger Bang
by Avery Flynn
Contemporary Romance
Releasing April 24, 2023
Shy paleontologist Thea Pope just wants to get through her sister’s ’80s-themed monstrosity of a TV reality-show wedding so she can get to her summer field work. The only problem? Her sister has turned into the ultimate bridezilla all while on location in a place literally called hell that reeks of sulfur and lost hopes.
The only thing that can make it worse is when her sister declares that she never even wanted Thea in the wedding at all but that the producers insisted.
There’s only one thing Thea can do after her sister finally pushes her too far – she picks the one man at the wedding her sister cannot stand – the groom’s brother, Kade St. James – and sleeps with him.
Is it petty revenge that she’ll be rubbing in her sister’s face from now until eternity? Absolutely. Still, it seems like a great idea at the time, and really what could go wrong? Pretty much everything it turns out.
Iโm not quite sure how this anger bang will hurt her sister but this book sounds like it could be hilarious so Iโm definitely going to be checking it out.
I love romance books with wedding craziness and this one pretty much had me at โ80s! ๐
