Must-Read New Romance Books Releasing in September 2023:
Things We Left Behind
by Lucy Score
Enemies to Lovers Romance
Releasing September 5, 2023
Lucian Rollins is a lean, mean vengeance-seeking mogul. On a quest to erase his father’s mark on the family name, he spends every waking minute pulling strings and building an indestructible empire.
The more money and power he amasses, the safer he is from threats. Except when it comes to the feisty small-town librarian that keeps him up at night…
Sloane Walton is a spitfire determined to carry on her father’s quest for justice. She’ll do that just as soon as she figures out exactly what the man she hates did to—or for—her family.
Bonded by an old, dark secret from the past and the dislike they now share for each other, Sloane trusts Lucian about as far as she can throw his designer-suited body.
When bickering accidentally turns to foreplay, these two find themselves not quite regretting their steamy one-night stand. Once those flames are fanned, it seems impossible to put them out again.
But with Sloane ready to start a family and Lucian refusing to even consider the idea of marriage and kids, these enemies-to-lovers are stuck at an impasse.
Broken men break women. It’s what Lucian believes, what he’s witnessed, and he’s not going to take that chance with Sloane.
He’d rather live a life of solitude than put her in danger. But he learns the hard way that leaving her means leaving her unprotected from other threats.
It’s the second time he’s ruthlessly cut her out of his life. There’s no way she’s going to give him a third chance. He’s just going to have to make one for himself.
OMG, is it September 5th yet because I have been craving Lucian and Sloane’s book like you wouldn’t believe after reading the previous books in the Things We Never Got Over series!
I adore alpha males like Lucian and spitfire heroines like Sloane so I anticipate their banter to be off the charts hot with the best sizzle.
You know I’m always up for a great enemies to lovers book and Lucy Score’s latest sounds like the best yet. Check out my review of Things We Left Behind.

The Long Game
by Elena Armas
Contemporary Romance
Releasing September 5, 2023
Adalyn Reyes has spent years perfecting her daily routine: wake up at dawn, drive to the Miami Flames FC offices, try her hardest to leave a mark, go home, and repeat.
But her routine is disrupted when a video of her in an altercation with the team’s mascot goes viral.
Rather than fire her, the team’s owner—who happens to be her father—sends Adalyn to middle-of-nowhere North Carolina, where she’s tasked with turning around the struggling local soccer team, the Green Warriors, as a way to redeem herself.
Her plans crumble upon discovering that the players wear tutus to practice (impractical), keep pet goats (messy), and are terrified of Adalyn (counterproductive), and are nine-year-old kids.
To make things worse, also in town is Cameron Caldani, goalkeeping prodigy whose presence is somewhat of a mystery.
Cam is the perfect candidate to help Adalyn, but after one very unfortunate first encounter involving a rooster, Cam’s leg, and Adalyn’s bumper, he’s also set on running her out of town.
But banishment is not an option for Adalyn. Not again. Helping this ragtag children’s team is her road to redemption, and she is playing the long game. With or without Cam’s help.
Yes, I’ve picked this book as a must-read because I adore Armas’ debut novel, The Spanish Love Deception, so if it’s anything like that runaway hit then I will be a happy camper this month.
Romance books about retired pro athletes who are a bit of a curmudgeon are so much fun to read so I’m looking forward to meeting Cameron and seeing how Adalyn gets herself out of her mess.

Secret Baby, Second Chance Romance
Releasing September 8, 2023
Addison: I never thought I would see him again. Especially while I was planning someone else’s wedding—yet there he was holding hands with his girlfriend.
Our one night was wild and passionate; I could never forget him because it changed my life.
Now he’s here—and the result of our one night is twirling in a princess dress at our feet.
Stefano: I didn’t make mistakes. I was the one you called in when you needed answers.
I was cutthroat but they didn’t pay me to be nice. I was in control every single second.
The only time I let my guard down was five years ago.
If I thought seeing the woman I could never forget again would throw me off—it’s nothing like seeing our daughter for the first time.
There is so much to love about this new romance!! I love books where one-night stands come back into your life though you never ever forgot them.
I’m also so curious to know if Stefano is the one getting married to someone else or what?! Awkward to say the least but I’m so for it.
Fall of Ruin and Wrath
by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Fantasy Romance
Releasing September 12, 2023
Long ago, the world was destroyed by gods. Only nine cities were spared.
Separated by vast wilderness teeming with monsters and unimaginable dangers, each city is now ruled by a guardian—royalty who feed on mortal pleasure.
Born with an intuition that never fails, Calista knows her talents are of great value to the power-hungry of the world, so she lives hidden as a courtesan of the Baron of Archwood.
In exchange for his protection, she grants him information.
When her intuition leads her to save a traveling prince in dire trouble, the voice inside her blazes with warning—and promise. Today he’ll bring her joy. One day he’ll be her doom.
When the Baron takes an interest in the traveling prince and the prince takes an interest in Calista, she becomes the prince’s temporary companion.
But the city simmers with rebellion, and with knights and monsters at her city gates and a hungry prince in her bed, intuition may not be enough to keep her safe.
Calista must choose: follow her intuition to safety or follow her heart to her downfall.
Honestly, I’ll read any fantasy romance that Armentrout writes because she’s blown me away with her From Blood and Ash series that I honestly can’t get enough of.
I’m super stoked that she’s starting another adult fantasy romance series and one about beings that feed on mortal pleasure…yes, please!
I’ve already started reading my advanced reader copy of this romance and the main characters are AMAZING, plus the world-building is a total hook. Check out my book review of Fall of Ruin and Wrath.

Salt Kiss
by Sierra Simone
Bodyguard Romance
Releasing September 12, 2023
Tristan Thomas is lost. After leaving the army, the young former soldier is in limbo. Until, that is, he’s hired by Mark Trevena, the owner of Lyonesse―DC’s ultra-secret club―to be Mark’s new bodyguard.
He’s drawn into Mark’s dark, seductive world of power and desire, and slowly drawn to Mark himself, even though Mark is everything Tristan knows he shouldn’t want: cruel and wicked and shamelessly amoral.
But protecting Mark isn’t Tristan’s only duty: soon, Mark asks him to guard his soon-to-be bride as she travels home from Ireland on Mark’s yacht.
Tristan is jealous―and hurt to learn that the object of his obsession is engaged―but the former soldier in him is made to obey orders, and he goes to fetch Mark’s bride for him.
Isolde Laurence is nothing like Tristan expected, however. Young, quiet, and sharp, she’s being pushed into this marriage by her family, and as the two travel back to America, Tristan finds himself fascinated with Isolde and the glimpses he gets of the lonely but determined woman behind her reserve.
And the fascination is mutual: one night, while sailing under the cold stars, they share a searing kiss. From there, it’s a fast fall into the forbidden for all three of them.
Oh lordy, Simone is going to bring it with this one I have a feeling! Salt Kiss kicks off the brand-new Lyonesse series, which is a spin-off of her bestselling New Camelot series.
Now that trilogy was HOT so I can only imagine the heat that will be radiating from this spicy book. I’m totally game 😊.

Fighting the Pull
by Kristen Ashley
Billionaire Romance
Releasing September 12, 2023
Hale Wheeler inherited billions from his father. He’s decided to take those resources and change the world for the better.
He’s married to his mission, so he doesn’t have time for love.
There’s more lurking behind this decision. He hasn’t faced the tragic loss of his father, or the bitterness of his parents’ divorce.
He doesn’t intend to follow in his father’s footsteps, breaking a woman’s heart in a way it will never mend. So he vows he’ll never marry.
But Hale is intrigued when he meets Elsa Cohen, the ambitious celebrity news journalist who has been reporting on his famous family.
He warns her off, but she makes him a deal. She’ll pull back in exchange for an exclusive interview.
Elsa Cohen is married to her career, but she wants love, marriage, children. She also wants the impossibly handsome, fiercely loyal, tenderhearted Hale Wheeler.
They go head-to-head, both denying why there are fireworks every time they meet. But once they understand their undeniable attraction, Elsa can’t help but fall for the dynamic do-gooder.
As for Hale, he knows he needs to fight the pull of the beautiful, bold, loving Elsa Cohen, because breaking her would crush him.
Can I just say that I’m already in love with Hale. A man who wants to do good and who doesn’t want to hurt the woman he’s falling for. Gosh, he may be too good to be true.
I read a Kristin Ashley back title this summer and it made me remember how much I love her work. Her romances are BIG – in that you are just sucked into this world that she builds to the fullest with a strong story and even stronger characters.
I’m so excited to read her latest this month!

Opposites Attract Christmas Romance
Releasing September 26, 2023
As a successful film liaison, Elisha Rowe has her heart set on one thing and one thing only: putting her hometown back on the map.
So, when she gets the chance to secure a sequel to Sleighbells, she’s willing to do whatever it takes to make sure everything goes smoothly.
Unfortunately, that includes claiming to have already secured permission to film at the historic Christmas house—permission she was very much denied by the gorgeous new owner.
Ves Hollins is only back in Piney Peaks long enough to sell the house he inherited from his great-aunt.
The holidays have always been tough for Ves, and it’s not any easier when he’s distracted by memories of a Christmas long, long ago, and the undeniable charm of neighbor Elisha.
Ready to return home to New York as quickly as possible, he has no plans to put down roots or fall in love…even if Elisha unravels his hesitations like a bad Christmas sweater.
There’s no question the two are opposites in every way. Ves is unquestionably frosty. Elisha is brimming with warmth. He doesn’t do commitment. She never runs from a challenge.
But as the two grow closer, they quickly realize that the growing spark between them may be just what the season calls for.
Is it ever too early to start reading Christmas romance books?! This book made my list of new Christmas romance books releasing in 2023 because it sounds super cute with the small town and holiday film combo.
I also love a good opposites attract romance, especially when it comes to holiday romance so I hope this is a hit.

Faking Christmas
by Kerry Winfrey
A Fake Relationship Christmas Romance
Releasing September 26, 2023
Laurel Grant works as the social media manager for Buckeye State of Mind, an Ohio tourism magazine and website.
She most definitely does not run a farm . . . but one tiny misunderstanding leads her boss, Gilbert, to think she owns her twin sister Holly’s farm just outside of Columbus.
Laurel only handles the social media for the farm, but she’s happy to keep her little white lie going if it means not getting fired—she cannot be jobless again.
And keep it going she must when Gilbert, recently dumped by his wife, invites himself over for the farm’s big Christmas Eve Eve dinner (as advertised on Meadow Rise Farm’s Instagram, thanks to Laurel herself).
Laurel immediately goes into panic mode to figure out how she can trick Gilbert into thinking she’s basically the Martha Stewart of rural Ohio and keep her job in the process.
Laurel and Holly come up with the perfect plan—all Laurel has to do is pretend to own the farm for one dinner.
But Laurel shows up at the farm to find an unwelcome guest is waiting: Max Beckett, her nemesis since Holly’s wedding.
The annoyingly attractive man she hates will be posing as Laurel’s husband just for the evening, but when a snowstorm traps them all for the entire weekend, Laurel is going to have to figure out how to survive with her job and dignity intact.
Whatever the case, this promises to be the most eventful Christmas in ages.
I’m giving Winfrey another shot with this Christmas romance because it sounds adorable, not to mention super fun with the enemies to lovers, fake relationship trope action going on.
Maintaining a façade is never easy, let alone doing it while relying on a nemesis so I hope we get some good fun and shenanigans in this holiday romance.

Time to Shine
by Rachel Reid
MM Hockey Romance
Releasing September 26, 2023
For Landon Stackhouse, being called up from the Calgary farm team is exciting and terrifying, even if, as the backup goalie, he rarely leaves the bench.
A quiet loner by nature, Landon knows he gives off strong “don’t talk to me” vibes. The only player who doesn’t seem to notice is Calgary’s superstar young winger, Casey Hicks.
Casey treats Landon like an old friend, even though they’ve only interacted briefly in the past.
He’s endlessly charming and completely laid-back in a way that Landon absolutely can’t relate to.
They couldn’t have less in common, but Landon needs a place to live that’s not a hotel room and Casey has just bought a massive house—and hates being alone.
As roommates, Casey refuses to be defeated by Landon’s one-word answers.
As friends, Landon comes to notice a few things about Casey, like his wide, easy smile and sparkling green-blue eyes.
Spending the holidays together only intensifies their bromance-turned-romance. But as the new year approaches, the countdown to the end of Landon’s time in Calgary is on.
A hockey romance book that is also a MM romance AND written by Rachel Reid, yes please! Heated Rivalry is one of my all-time favorite hockey romance books because the characterization and the spice is off the charts and I am so hoping that we get that with this one.
I actually am really looking forward to meeting these two opposites and their more laid-back and quiet natures and seeing how they handle their forced proximity situation as roommates.

Fall Into You

Morally Grey Romance
Releasing September 28, 2023
Ruthless. Arrogant. Ice cold.
That’s how everyone describes Cole McCord, billionaire CFO of McCord Media. As notorious for his bad attitude as he is for his good looks, he’s the one every girl’s mother warns her about.
We spend one passionate, unforgettable night together, two strangers who bond over neat whiskeys and messy confessions in a Beverly Hills bar. Then we go our separate ways in the morning, never expecting to see each other again.
We soon discover that some connections can’t be undone. Some bonds, once made, can’t be broken.
And some loves can be as deep as they are destructive…yet impossible to let go.
Geissinger shared that she is creating this huge web connecting many of her mafia romance books and I cannot wait to see how it all plays out!
If I’m going to read about a morally grey hero, I definitely want it to be one that Geissinger writes because her characterization is amazing and I love how she doesn’t shy away from writing steamy reads!
