Are You Ready for the April 2020 Romance Book Reading Challenge?

It’s a new month, so it’s time for a new monthly challenge for our 2020 Romance Book Reading Challenge! We are going back in time for the April 2020 Romance Book Reading Challenge and selecting one historical romance book to read to explore this popular genre.

In case you are new to the challenge, welcome to the She Reads Romance Books Romance Book Reading Challenge for 2020! This year we are reading one romance book each month for the entire year.

For the January 2020 Romance Book Reading Challenge, we tackled a contemporary romance book and for the February 2020 Romance Book Reading Challenge we devoured an erotic romance book.

And last month for the March Romance Book Reading Challenge we fan girled over a rock star romance book. You can easily catch up or just dive into this month’s challenge.

Historical Romance – April’s Reading Challenge Selection

Join me as we go back in time to fall in love with a historical romance book for the April 2020 Romance Book Reading Challenge. Long time fans of this popular genre will enjoy this month’s challenge but those who have yet to explore this genre should definitely check it out.

All you have to do is pick one historical romance book to read and you’ve completed the challenge.

Now just as we debunked the stigma of erotic romance in February’s reading challenge, we need to dispel some myths about historical romance as well.

Sure historical romance covers of the past have perpetuated the idea that historical romance books are simple bodice rippers but this is not the case. I have found that many of the historical romances of today showcase the strongest of heroines and the sexiest of heroes full of honor.

Plus, these books give an added element of taking you back in time to a period of history that can paint such a vibrant, different world to escape into. Whether it’s the Highlands of Scotland, Medieval times, Regency or Victorian England, Colonial America or even Pirates of the high seas, there is a variation of historical romance that can meet anyone’s taste.

In fact, according to the Romance Writers of America, a historical romance is any romance book set prior to 1950 so the options are endless!

If you are new to the genre or hesitant to give it a try, you’ll want to check out my list of best historical romance books.

What’s My April 2020 Romance Book Challenge Selection?

Romancing the Duke by Tessa Dare was the historical romance book pick for the April 2020 Romance Book Reading Challenge sponsored by She Reads Romance Books. Read her review.

Romancing the Duke
by Tessa Dare

My April 2020 Romance Book Reading Challenge Selection is Romancing the Duke by Tessa Dare. For this month’s challenge I wanted to pick a historical romance book from an author I haven’t read before. Tessa Dare’s books have been on my radar so it’s the perfect time to pick one up.

I chose Romancing the Duke, which is the first in the Castles Ever After series so I hope it’s a good one! I love that this heroine loves fairy tales and is holding out hope for her own happily ever after. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for her.
